POSITION SUMMARY

The Computer Programming Teacher at CBTECH provides high-quality industry-aligned instruction that prepares students for careers in software development game design and emerging technology fields. This position plays a key role in advancing CBTECHs mission to expand opportunities for students while meeting the workforce needs of regional industry.

The instructor delivers rigorous standards-based and project-based instruction aligned to Washington State CTE frameworks and incorporates research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices to support high levels of student learning . The instructor supports program growth student leadership and strong partnerships with local employers and postsecondary institutions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Program Leadership & Instruction

  • Teach courses in:
    • Computer Programming / Software Development
    • Video Game Programming
    • Emerging technology pathways such as AI cybersecurity and app development
    • Implement Programmable Logic Controller programming.
  • Deliver engaging project-based instruction aligned to Washington State CTE standards and learning objectives
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies effective pacing and high-impact teaching practices to support student achievement
  • Communicate clear learning targets and maintain high expectations for student performance and achievement
  • Prepare students for postsecondary education industry certifications and careers
  • Embed employability skills such as teamwork communication and problem-solving
  • Utilize current programming languages (e.g. Python Java C# JavaScript Unity)
  • Use instructional technology effectively to enhance student learning

Student Development

  • Build strong positive relationships and maintain high expectations for all students
  • Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to support diverse learners and individual student needs
  • Monitor and assess student progress using multiple data sources and formative assessments to guide instruction
  • Teach students to reflect on and monitor their own learning progress
  • Promote leadership professionalism and career readiness
  • Reinforce that attendance adherence to school policies and engagement mirror real-world workplace expectations

Program Growth & Industry Alignment

  • Collaborate with the Director to grow enrollment and expand program offerings
  • Maintain alignment with local workforce needs in the Columbia Basin region
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with:
    • Local tech and industry employers
    • Community colleges and apprenticeship programs
  • Support advisory committee engagement and program review processes

Work-Based Learning & Career Connections

  • Facilitate internships job shadows and industry guest speakers
  • Integrate real-world projects and client-based learning experiences
  • Promote and serve as advisor for student participation in CTSOs (e.g. SkillsUSA FBLA)

Classroom & Lab Management

  • Foster and maintain a safe positive and productive learning environment that maximizes instructional time
  • Establish clear procedures manage student behavior respectfully and maintain organized learning spaces
  • Manage classroom technology software and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with district OSPI and safety expectations

Assessment & Instructional Improvement

  • Use multiple student data elements to inform and adjust instruction
  • Implement formative and summative assessments aligned to learning targets
  • Continuously evaluate and refine instructional practices to improve student outcomes
  • Remain current in both industry trends and instructional pedagogy

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with students families partner districts and stakeholders regarding student progress and program expectations
  • Collaborate with CBTECH staff sending schools counselors and administration to support student success
  • Engage families as partners in student learning beyond required reporting
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and program information

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) data teams and continuous improvement efforts
  • Demonstrate professionalism reliability and a commitment to continuous growth
  • Stay current with industry trends certifications and emerging technologies
  • Contribute to a positive student-centered CBTECH culture

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Valid Washington State CTE Teaching Certificate or ability to obtain
  • Industry experience in computer programming software development or related field
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages and development tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school-aged students and diverse learners
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students staff and community partners
  • Valid Type 2 Drivers Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Maintain and update State CTE Frameworks as required by OSPI
  • Ability to creatively work within a budget
  • Willingness to take students to CTSO competitions (15 days per year)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience teaching in a CTE or skills center setting
  • Background in game development software engineering or emerging technologies
  • Experience with work-based learning or industry partnerships
  • Experience using student data to drive instructional decisions
  • Ability to contribute to program expansion and innovation
