Job Description
Are you passionate about problem solving in IT Infrastructure if so this role could be for you.
Working in the National Records of Scotland (NRS) as part of our team of infrastructure specialists and engineers you will support and maintain infrastructure solutions in line with departmental policies and standards. You will ensure infrastructure services are reliable meet business requirements and are used effectively across the organisation.
As an Infrastructure Engineer you will design build manage and support the infrastructure that underpins internal user services and publicfacing services. You will also work closely with thirdparty suppliers to support the ongoing delivery and improvement of infrastructure services.
Build configure administer and support infrastructure solutions and services including networking and physical infrastructure commercialofftheshelf (COTS) software opensource packages and virtual or cloud computing platforms.
Explain and apply information security principles including the security controls used to protect solutions and services and understand how these controls operate in practice.
Understand and apply modern development standards explaining the key principles and applying them to your work under guidance.
Take ownership of issues endtoend investigating problems across systems processes and services; understanding whether issues are strategic tactical or operational; and ensuring resolution mitigation or appropriate handover.
Contribute to continuous improvement including implementing remedies and preventative measures taking inputs from multiple sources and establishing coherent effective frameworks.
Translate designs into delivery producing logical and physical designs creating detailed designs and designing systems with managed risk appropriate complexity and meaningful business or technical impact.
Work effectively with established technologies identifying suitable patterns building and testing simple system interfaces and contributing to more complex integrations as part of a wider team.
Apply core technical and testing skills including executing test scripts under supervision understanding the role of testing documenting work using required standards and tools (including prototyping tools) and troubleshooting issues across multiple technology capabilities.
