This role provides an excellent starting point for those with some relevant experience who are eager to build their skills in testing.

As a Test Engineer you will create and execute test cases while also supporting the development implementation and maintenance of test frameworks to enable end-to-end testing across multi-component environments. You will gain hands-on experience with modern technologies and contribute to the delivery of both new and existing products.

This opportunity would particularly suit colleagues looking to transition into testing who can demonstrate some knowledge of data warehouses and data marts an understanding of database schemas and procedures and experience with data reconciliation checks.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

A Test Engineer develops solutions to enable more efficient testing. They follow engineering standards to design and execute appropriate technical tests.

At this role level you will:

  • Determine test scope and estimate the effort required
  • Select and use the most appropriate test approaches and techniques to mitigate risk.
  • Use technical tooling and engineering approaches to design and execute tests.
  • Develop and maintain technical test suites.
  • Develop reports record outcomes and support the resolution of defects.
  • Contribute to and follow engineering practices and standards.
  • Review requirements specifications and technical design documents to create and improve test plans and test cases.
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products.
  • Design build and maintain automated and manual test cases aligned to project requirements.
  • Perform comprehensive testing across interfaces APIs and end to end user journeys.
  • Collaborate closely with developers product teams and analysts to clarify requirements and risks.
  • Conduct exploratory testing to uncover defects beyond scripted scenarios.
  • Contribute to building reusable test frameworks and improving CI/CD test coverage.
  • Produce clear test documentation reports and defect records.

For this post the following Success Profile elements will be assessed:

Experience:

  1. Hands-on experience with manual and knowledge of data testing which incorporates data validations and data reconciliations checks.
  2. Experience in creating structured test plans and cases troubleshooting technical issues using defect tracking tools and working effectively within Agile delivery environments.

Technical Skills:
This role is aligned to Test Engineerwithin the Government Digital and Data Profession.

These skills will be tested during the Technical Assessment if you are successful at sift stage. They will not be assessed at application stage.

Successful candidates will be invited to a competency based interview which will assess the experience and behaviours and a technical assessment comprising a 10 minute presentation which will assess the technical skills.

Full details of the interview and assessment process will be shared with shortlisted candidates once the sift has been completed.

GDD Pay Supplement
This post is part of the Government Digital and Data (GDD) profession and currently attracts a 3000 annual GDD pay supplement which is paid monthly - pay supplements are reviewed regularly.

Working Pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours perweekand we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices.
