Position Overview
The Application Engineer providestechnicalexpertiseto internal&external customersand suppliersformaterial&productdesigntesting qualification certification and approval withkey OEMend user distributionchannelsand industry bodies.
The Applications Engineer willdirect and undertake the development of new&existing products and services within PPE with respect toproduct selectiondesign material specification quality and service requirements ina diverse range ofmarkets includingsemi-conductor energy life-sciences marine propulsionandsimilar industries.
The Applications Engineer will work closely with relevant sales channels and strategic customers to understand current and future industry requirements. This willemphasise PPEs brand as a provider of innovative engineered sealing solutionsandalign the business for growth.
The ideal candidatemust have astrong engineering acumenand the ability to view things from a customers perspective. Theymustalso have either experience with the design of polymericsealing technologiesor experience using polymeric seals within a target marketsector.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Application Expertise
- Provide advanced engineering support forPPEproducts and servicesincluding elastomeric& thermoplastic seals andcustom sealing systems.
- Review customer technical requirements specifications and operating conditions to recommendoptimalseal designs.
- Provide detailed technical proposals product recommendations product designs and material selections based on customer and industry requirements.
- Overseefailure analysis root cause investigations and corrective action recommendations.
- Prepare detailed manufacturing drawingsincludingappropriate toleranceslimitsand fitsfor non-O-Ring product.
Customer & Commercial Support
- Supportsales product managementand other functionstopromote PPE materials products and servicesat customer sites technical seminars tradeshowsand industry forums.
- Attend customer meetings technical reviews and site visits as needed to provide expert consultation.
- Support the sales teams to ensuretimelyandaccurateresponse to RFQs (RequestForQuotation) through the CRM system.
- Deliver technical presentationsincludinggeneric and specialised training courses to internal&externalcustomers and suppliers.
- Manage and control SKUs for through J.D Edwards.
Product Development & Innovation
- Work with customerssalesandproduct managementfunctions to develop detailed and relevant specifications for new product developments.
- Work closely withR&Dand manufacturing functions along withidentifiedthird partiesto develop materialsproductsand services. Ensures thatnew and existing productsmeet customer and industry requirements.
- Work with sales functionstoleveragethe commercial opportunities resulting from the qualification ofnew & existingproducts and services.
- Identifyemergingtechnological political and markettrendstoenhancing the product portfolio.
- Build a detailed understanding of customer & industry requirements and competitor offerings for sealing materialsproductsand services within target segments.
- Provides voice of customer to contribute to development ofproduct strategy andproduct developmentroadmaps.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelors orMasters degree in Mechanical Engineering Materials Engineering relateddisciplineor equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience ineitherdesigningdevelopingandvalidatingelastomeric sealing solutionsor having experience working with polymeric sealing products in the semi-conductor energy life-sciences marinepropulsionor similar industries.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge ofpolymeric sealingmaterials (e.g. elastomers thermoplastics composites) andassociatedmanufacturing processes.
- Competent user of 3D CAD systems (familiarity with SolidWorks would be an advantage) engineering analysis tools (e. g. FEA and FSD systems) and Microsoft Office products.
- Understanding of mechanical design principlesincluding materials technology stress analysisfluid dynamicstribologyandthermodynamics.
- Abilitytounderstandcustomerand industrytechnical requirements includingtheinterpretation of engineering drawings(geometry dimensions tolerances etc)and material/productand testspecifications. Able todisseminatethose requirements throughout the organisation.

- Able to effectively communicate engineering details to both technically and non-technically minded people.
- Customer-centric mindsetable to appreciate the specific factors for success in target sectors.
- Experience with problem solving techniques andproven ability to solve complexengineeringproblems.
