ABOUT ABBOTT VASCULAR NETHERLANDS (AVN)

Abbott Vascular Netherlands is located in Heerlen The Netherlands. Together with the distribution center in the USA we are responsible for the for the worldwide distribution of Abbotts vascular products. From our 10000 m2 warehouse we ship an average of 1700 deliveries per day (765000 units per month) to hospitals Abbott distributors and Abbott affiliates in Europe Middle East Africa and South America.

We do not only ship international on a global scale also our 200 employees working in the warehouse and office departments come from all over the world. Making us a company of inclusion and diversity. Together as 1 team we make sure that we process customer orders maintain a high service level to ensure that our customers receive the right products on time. Abbott Vascular Netherlands offers a complete and high standard Supply Chain solution including an extensive range of value-add logistics activities such as labeling relabeling and reworking of products to meet country specific needs.

WHAT WILL YOU FOCUS ON DURING YOUR INTERNSHIP

Background

As an Operational Excellence Intern the assignment you will work on will be focusing on warehouse processes and operational excellence. These departments are connected to almost all elements making your assignment dynamic interesting and meaningful. Our aim is to provide an real work experience to our students where students can work on a project from start to actual implementation. You will be guided on content stakeholder management presentation and of course your own paper.

In return you are going to lead a DMAIC on process efficiency of the team itself. We have guidelines on our efficiency and not reaching the desired state. By analyzing the current process in place capturing inputs from the different stakeholders review of the process we want to optimize our workflow. Identify solutions to make the process more efficient are the main focus on this Internship. Next to that you will work closely with different Departments such as: Warehouse Operations Supervisors Quality Department and Site Leadership members.

Problem Description

There are process inefficiencies that need to be resolved for our warehouse processes. These inefficiencies are visible by metrics and/ or our strategy to deliver life changing technologies to our Customers and be a Trusted Partner as Center of Excellence for Distribution. Inefficiencies can be considered in leadtime of processes time spend on activities variation within outcomes and many more. During the conversation targeted problems will be shared as continuous improvement is key within our Distribution Center.

We are looking for a motivated student at the level of university and/or Applied Sciences (HBO or WO) to join our business for this assignment including but not limited to the following field of studies:
