Senior Research Engineer - Mapping and Localization

NavLive is a spinout from the University of Oxford backed by awardwinning technology and algorithms. We are developing realtime spatial AI solutions for the construction and geospatial industries.

We use realtime multisensor fusion and highprecision positioning technology to build 3D models of indoor and outdoor environments in realtime. Our tech can infer what has changed and provide insights to facility owners or site decisionmakers. We want to recruit a senior research engineer to help us develop our products and execute R&D projects with partners in the abovementioned sectors.

Tasks

Your role as a Senior Research Engineer will involve:

• Developing and improving 3D localisation and mapping algorithms and related applications (change detection place recognition semantic segmentation).
• Writing software in C and Python and working in a professional software code base with continuous software integration code reviews and unit testing.
• Understanding priorities for our clients and the company to develop new features and longterm capabilities.
• To collaborate with our colleagues who have a broad range of expertise from hardware engineers to UI designers.
• Leading field trials and data collection with our mobile robots and handheld devices.
• Providing your own opinions and perspective to shape the growth of the company. Joining our earlystage startup company is a unique opportunity to impact a fastmoving deeptech startup.

Requirements

Key requirements for this role:

• Experience developing simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) on robots vehicles or sensor systems.
• Professional or research experience with C Python and ROS in the context of robotics and mobile sensing with demonstrations of these skills.
• Experience working with mobile robotics and sensors such as lidar vision GPS and IMUs.
• Deep understanding of algorithms and tools for Spatial AI such as nonlinear optimization (GTSAM Ceres) training neural networks for place recognition and 3D reconstruction techniques (meshes NeRF).
• A PhD in the field of robotic perception and SLAM or similar industrial experience. Further experience working in industry is desirable.

The following are desirable skills and traits:

• Experience working with 3D (building) models and data flows around 3D and Geospatial data (or interest in learning)
• Experience in the architecture or construction industries.

Flexibility

While this role will require some onsite and inperson time much of what we do is structured for hybrid work. We more highly value excellent work rather than an onsite work environment.

This role assumes a typical 37.5 working week centred around a set of core working hours but we can offer extra flexibility for candidates with specific constraints.
