Designability is a national charity that enables disabled people to live with greater independence. Our expertise in personcentred design helps us create products and services with and for disabled people to improve and enrich their lives. Borne out of a partnership between the Royal United Hospital and the University of Bath in the 1960s the charity is best known for their pioneering Wizzybug Loan Scheme which provides free fun powered wheelchairs called Wizzybugs to very young disabled children across the UK.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the production and continuous improvement of existing products working closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to ensure the engineering operations run efficiently within budget and delivers products manufactured on time to the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
This postion will be for a fixed term of 18 months. The position will be primary based at our Bath premises with some home working.

Tasks
- Lead the Engineering Support team to deliver the supply of Designability products.
- Manage the Medical Device Files (technical files) for medical devices.
- Working closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to lead and undertake the QMS procedures relating to engineering operations keeping accurate records and continuously improving our processes.
- Create accurate production schedules to satisfy demand including reporting and KPI tracking.
- Work closely with the Production Team Lead to manage internal resources build schedules and timely supply of components to meet demand. Collaborate to implement new Quality control procedures in production.
- To be responsible for the financial management of the engineering operations including the product Bills of Materials and the introduction of a formal stock management system.
- Work closely with the Engineering Operations Manager to accurately forecast expenditure in relation to engineering operations.
- Manage and onboard suppliers monitoring their performance in line with the QMS including creation of an approved suppliers list.
- Manage the change control process including the revision of engineering drawings spare parts lists and assembly instructions.
- Support the programme office in the logistics supply chain courier & shipping operations including the return of Wizzybugs at the end of the loan scheme.
- Conduct Risk Assessment process for COSH materials heavy duty tools and ensure all production team are in date with any training requirements for the equipment used.
- To be committed to the work of Designability and work in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures.
- To conduct such other duties as may be required by the organisation from time to time.

Essential:
- Degree (2:1 or higher) in Engineering

- Manufacturing Engineering qualification
Experience

- Demonstrable track record in a similar role where you have brought improvements to engineering operations quality and efficiency
- Experience in manufacturing and production
- Experience of leadership delegation to others and decision making
Desirable:
- Experience of medical devices design and manufacture
- Experience of working within an ISO9001 Quality management system
Knowledge
- Supply chain and supplier management
- Design for manufacture including selection of suitable processes
- Robust design knowledge such as tolerancing and design for assembly
Skills
Essential:
- Proficient at using Office suite of products
- Experienced user of a stock management system such as SAGE
- Proficient CAD user
- Highly proficient in engineering drawing creation and checking

- CAD experience in Solidworks and Inventor
