Are you looking for a way how to level up the game when it comes to Java web development?
We are looking for IT freelancers, esp. Senior Java Engineers, to embark on an adventure at the European Commission, for the DIGIT TM II framework!
If you join, youll be responsible for:
- Development of back-end website applications at the European Commission.
- Integration of user-facing elements developed by a front-end developer with server-side logic.
- Implement core business logic.
- Creation of servers and databases for functionality.
- Design and implementation of data storage solutions.
- Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.
- Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.
- Design and develop APIs.
- Participating in the design and creation of scalable software.
- Taking lead on projects, as needed.
- Maintenance of code integrity and organization.
- Writing clean, functional code on the back end.
- Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement.
- Testing and fixing bugs or other coding issues Meet both technical and consumer needs.
- Write technical documentation.
Requirements
Education
- All degrees must be IT-related.
Skills
- Proficiency with back-end languages and frameworks such as Java, PHP, Spring boot, and Hibernate.
- Strong understanding of the web development cycle and programming techniques and tools.
- Familiarity with database technology such as Oracle, and MongoDB.
- Knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git or SVN
- English level B1 or better
Nice-to-haves
- French at level B1 is an advantage
Specific Expertise
- Following specific expertise is mandatory for the performance of:
- At least 7 years of specific expertise in Java development
- At least 5 years of specific expertise in JEE (EJB, JMS)
- At least 5 years of specific expertise in Spring framework
- At least 4 years of specific expertise in Spring Boot
- At least 4 years of specific expertise in JPA, Hibernate framework
- At least 5 years of specific expertise in Webservices (REST API/SOAP)
Certifications
- Proficiency with back-end languages and frameworks such as Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate.
Self-Assessment Questions:
- Do you have at least 7 of experience with Java development?
- Do you have a Java / SpringBoot / Hibernate certificate?
- Is your English good enough to speak with international colleagues? Level B1 or better
- Can you work as a freelancer?
- Are you based in Belgium or would you like to relocate to Brussels (Belgium)?

Very good knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Online, 2010 and 2013; Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and tools in particular for the integration with Microsoft SharePoint; Ability to design friendly user interface in Office automation and in particular in Excel; Knowledge of designing web based applications with Angular and graphical tools; Experience in: - web technologies and standards - interaction design and information architecture - SharePoint development - SharePoint on prem to Sharepoint online migration - Javascript - Angular - provisioning 3nd level support, including incident and problem handling, in relation to COLLABORATIVE tools such as SharePoint and Confluence
