Are you a seasoned IT professional with a passion for providing exceptional application support and driving business value through technology? We are seeking a Senior Application Support Specialist to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in supporting our ICT Projects Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expertise on a wide range of applications, including 3rd line support for complex inquiries and service desk calls. Additionally, you will actively contribute to the development and maintenance of specific application systems, ensuring the maximum value is achieved for our organisation.

Tasks

As a Senior Application Support Specialist, you will:

1. Lead the Customer-Focused Application Support Team: Play a senior role in a customer-focused application support team, providing expertise and acting as an escalation point for Application Support Officers.

2. Proactively Manage Application Systems: Undertake proactive research to develop, maintain, and administer specific application systems, identifying business benefits and maximizing value.

3. Oversee Application Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of ICT applications, maintaining service levels, and liaising with relevant stakeholders.

4. Manage ICT Projects: Manage or play a senior role in ICT projects aimed at improving or reviewing ICT applications.

5. Provide Training: Provide training for Application Support Officers to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge.

Main Outcomes to be Achieved:

Your primary outcomes will include:

  • Proactively managing and maintaining application systems to meet customer and senior stakeholders' needs.
  • Ensuring staff have the skills and knowledge to utilize systems effectively and promoting their use to maximize benefits and value.
  • Producing, maintaining, and sharing documentation for all supported systems.
  • Managing the knowledge base and other resources used by Service Desk Analysts for efficient handling of support requests.

Main Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Identifying opportunities for using ICT applications to deliver improved outcomes.
  • Researching, implementing, developing, and supporting critical business applications.
  • Providing technical expertise for large corporate business systems (Windows and Linux).
  • Conducting audits on ICT applications, including user audits.
  • Liaising with users, managers, and suppliers to promote best practices and system development.
  • Engaging with suppliers to ensure applications meet or exceed service level agreements.
  • Providing 3rd line support for ICT applications and tools.
  • Promoting industry standards related to ICT applications.
  • Representing the council with external organisations regarding designated systems.
  • Assisting the Project Manager with managing relevant projects.
  • Ensuring adherence to ICT strategies and policies.

Requirements

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • An IT-related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of computer components, operating systems, and concepts.
  • Experience with Income Management systems such as Pay 360, Heycentric.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, Visio, and Project).
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL scripting and reporting.
  • Knowledge of relational database structures.
  • Experience managing Ingres databases and database administration within a Red Hat Linux environment.
  • Understanding of FTP and SFTP protocols.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems and scripting.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Capita's One Revenues and Benefits System (previously Academy).
  • Knowledge of payment channels, e.g., Pay point, All Pay.
