Job Description Summary:

This position is responsible for all aspects of design, development, configuration and support of the SAP applications used in support of Supply Chain. This includes the SAP Materials Management (MM) module (Master Data, Procurement, Logistics, Consumption Based Planning, External Services Management and LIS); Supplier Relationship Management, Sourcing, Contract Lifecycle Management and Extended Warehouse Management. This position requires effective communication with other cross functional teams (HR, SD, FI, BW, PM and Customer Care/CRM) and the client community to deliver Supply Chain solutions and/or address issues/opportunities that may arise in the course of business.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for design, development, configuration, and support of SAP applications used by CenterPoint Energy's Supply Chain organization.

  • Analyze business requirements and perform fit-gap analysis to come up with required Configuration and Development items.

  • Configuration of ECC MM area to support business requirements.

  • Develop and utilize test plans and tools to ensure programs are thoroughly tested before they are installed.

  • Responsible for complex problem analysis including determining the cause, possible solutions, and implementation and communication of the final solution.

  • Experience with mapping and troubleshooting for IDOC/EDI transactions for purchase orders, Advance Ship Notification, Vendor Invoice.

  • Provide support to troubleshoot production support issues that arise from both technical and functional issues. This involves technical knowledge for troubleshooting issues to determine whether process, ABAP or configuration needs to change.

  • Creates technical specifications for ABAP development. Creates functional specifications based on user requirements and support needs. Participates in new development through implementation.

  • Fosters environment of operational excellence and innovation through encouraging new process and technology development for improvement in systems or workforce productivity while maintaining sensitivity to costs of services. Mentors with co-workers through teaching others analytical skills and problem solving.

  • Performs all aspects of work with a high degree of effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy.

  • Leads or participates in project teams to meet objectives.


Four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, business or Computer Science.


  • Supply Chain knowledge and experience in procurement, logistics or inventory management operations.

  • Practical experience in implementing using and supporting SAP Materials Management module.

  • 7+ years of experience in the MM area with development and support of business application systems including analysis, functional/technical design, and testing.

  • Hands on experience with Material planning and MRP Procedure, Cycle counting, Configuration in MM Logistics, Procurement, and Inventory management area.

  • Good knowledge of different procurement processes like stock transport orders, stock transfers, consignment etc. Solid understanding across the procure to pay processes within Supply Chain.

  • Experience in the core SAP MM module and at least one area of extended supply chain functionality is required. The areas of extended functionality include SAP's Extended Warehouse Management and SRM

  • Experience with SAP S4/ HANA migration is a Plus.

  • Career level will be based on the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong SAP-MM technical and configuration problem solving skills

  • Have a solid understanding of SAP's EWM and SRM is a plus

  • Good understanding of integration with other SAP modules, such as FI, SD and Work Management

  • Excellent communication skills in an IT and business environment

  • Strong procurement and/or logistics background

  • Ability to learn and utilize a working knowledge of broad business environment, energy industry, and corporate operations.

  • Ability to interact in a team environment.

  • Must demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures, and take all required training courses.

  • Must demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the Company's values and business practices.

Physical Requirements:

Able to demonstrate the manual dexterity required to operate a personal computer.

Able to view computer terminal/screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.

Able to travel out of town, occasionally overnight, for meetings, audits, conferences, etc.

Must possess the ability to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Working Conditions:

Able to produce quality work in fast paced environment with daily pressure to meet deadlines.

Able to work overtime as needed or required to meet established deadlines.

Able to support Emergency Operations Plan.
