The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. BACKGROUND:

Commander Navy Region Southwest (CNRSW) requires a Roman Catholic musician as support personnel for the Installation Base Chapel at Naval Air Station, Lemoore CA. This personnel support requirement is needed to provide music during Sunday Worship services as well as Religious Holy Days. Music has traditionally been and is an integral part of the worship services. Provides for accommodation for the free exercise of religion and accommodates the religious practices of military personnel, their families, and other authorized personnel. OPNAVINST 1730 provides policy.

2. SCOPE:

The contractor shall provide personnel necessary to perform programs at the Naval Air Station, Lemoore CA Chapel as defined in this Job description. The contractor shall perform to the standards in this contract. To provide the Commander Navy Region Southwest/ Naval Air Station, Lemoore CA Chapel programs with professional and quality music that promotes a culture of moral leadership as well as individual and family resiliency to withstand the stresses of military life.

Twice each Sunday (for 52 Sunday s) the contractor Music Director will provide musical accompaniment during Sunday services and congregational singing. Also provide prelude, postlude, and hymns during the regular worship service on Sundays and other such services as may be scheduled by the on-site Priest and Roman Catholic chaplain. Provide for up 14 special worship services including additional rehearsals for:

Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday , Easter Vigil, All Saints, Immaculate Conception, Mary, Mother of God

Assumption, Penance Services, Ascension, up to 4 active duty memorials or weddings

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

3.1 Professional Experience: A Degree in music or church music. An acceptable equivalent in place of such a degree would be at least three years experience in playing for Roman Catholic worship services.

3.1.1. Must uphold and adhere to the highest standards of personal conduct, morals and ethics for a professional and must always be conscious of the trusted position they hold and the reputation they embody as a contractor of the NAS Religious Ministries Program.

3.1.2. Professionalism, personal initiative and demonstrate good judgment in accomplishing tasks and responsibilities.

3.1.3. Ability to play the piano for a variety of church hymns and music as found in the prescribed Hymnal and worship aides.

3.1.4. It is desirable that the contractor has previous experience in working with military chapels.

3.1.5. Develop and deliver a proposed plan of special music arranged from outside sources, as deemed appropriate and necessary during the church year, in order to provide musical presentations at each worship service.

3.1.6. The contractor will provide and coordinate all programming with the assigned Roman Catholic Priest during planning meetings maximum of six. Be available to meet for liturgical planning sessions (a minimum of one hour, once a month).

3.1.7. The contractor for the subject position will provide quality music appropriate to the church seasons in consultation with the chaplain who presides at the service.

3.1.8. Recruit, coordinate and sustain a volunteer choir, which will be present at every Divine Service, unless excused by the Roman Catholic Priest.

3.1.9. Provide choir practice one hour in the evening, once a week for 52 weeks, as well as accompaniment for the choir rehearsals, including the rehearsal of congregational hymns.

Perform a 30-minute choir warm-up prior to each worship service.

3.1.10. Coordinate use of chapel and classroom facilities for choir rehearsals.

3.1.11. On-going flexibility and the ability to work well with the chapel staff and family members.

3.1.12. Success in providing quality customer services and support skills to the Roman Catholic community.

3.1.13. The contractor shall provide Roman Catholic Music and lead in song for a variety of church hymns and music found in prescribed Roman Catholic worship aides.

3.1.14. The contractor will provide and coordinate with all programming with the assigned Roman Catholic Priest, and will schedule music using the church calendar, i.e., Advent, Lent, Easter, Divine Services, Active Duty Weddings Funerals, Memorial Services any special occasion services.

3.1.15. Maintaining religious hymnals/song books and other program materials.

3.1.16. Assist the Roman Catholic Priest in coordinating and scheduling musical events for religious groups present at the Installation.

3.1.17. In the event that the contractor is incapable of performing the duties and responsibilities outlined in this statement of work due to personal emergency or illness the contractor is responsible for obtaining the services of a sub-contractor that is qualified to perform the required services. Since this will be a third party arrangement for services the contractor will handle all payment issues to the sub-contractor outside the scope of this contract. The government reserves the right to a pre-award survey and interview to verify that the sub-contractor used by the contractor has the capability and technical excellence to perform the function outlined in this statement of work. If the absence is scheduled, the name of the replacement will be provided 15 days prior to absence, except in case of an emergency when the Installation Chaplain and/or staff should be contacted immediately.
