SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Critical Care Nurse must be proficient in the care of adult patients with critical care nursing requirements including telemetry and hemodynamic stability. This includes and is not limited to:
  • Applying the Nursing process to critically ill patients
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • Insertion of invasive lines
  • Managing multiple vasoactive drips
  • Mechanical ventilation
  • EKG/rhythm strip interpretation
  • Moderate sedation
  • Postsurgical recovery and stabilization
  • Responds to Rapid Response System and Cardiopulmonary arrest within the medical center.
  • The RN role includes initial and ongoing physical and psychosocial assessment/ reassessment to determine the patients nurse care needs via the synthesis of data from various assessments problem identification care planning monitoring and evaluation and care planning monitoring and evaluation of the patient.
  • The RN is actively involved in the following patient concepts of care: Support systems; strengths/areas for growth advocacy discharge planning and collaboration with the other healthcare providers optimize wellness and comfort.
  • The RN will also give immediate attention and response to critical events and assess plan implement and evaluate the patients experience with pain.
  • The Critical Care RN escalates clinical situation and or problems to their supervisor in a timely manner.
  • The Critical Care RN is expected to communicate timely and efficiently with all members of the interdisciplinary team as well as positively impact the patient and family experience.

License & Certifications Required:

Licensed to practice as a professional nurse in New York State

BLS & ACLS certification

Educational Qualification:
Associates Degree (Community College MBO)

Skills & Experience Required:
2 years of following experience is required:
Critical care experience
IV Insertion and phlebotomy skill
Conscious sedation
