Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, with 358 licensed beds, is an emergency and critical care center specializing in cardiology, emergency medicine, orthopedics, oncology, neurology, and neurosurgery. LGH is recognized nationally for its oncology, cardiac, and neurosciences programs, as well as nursing. LGH is a Primary Stroke Center and is working towards achieving a designation as a Comprehensive Stroke Program.
Centra's emPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing) unit is slated for completion in 2023 within the Emergency Department. This unit will be a calming, comfortable space where patients can be assessed and treated with the primary focus of returning the patient safely to their home. Ultimately, the emPATH unit works to reduce the need for extended Emergency Department stays or even hospitalization with ensuring that each behavioral health patient is provided care that is both equitable and excellent.
