The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

Scope of Responsibilities.

The Music Director provides music activities for the Wright Patterson AFB Community. The Music Director shall provide labor and management to support the responsibilities outlined within this JOB DESCRIPTION. The contract includes but is not limited to playing training scheduling and processing music for liturgies within the Protestant Service in collaboration with the Protestant Servicing Chaplain. Directorship shall be required for rehearsals services and special services. Special services include but are not limited to:

Memorial services Funeral services combined services faith specific holidays and occasional support for special events as needed.

Education and Experience. Music Director shall:

1. Have two or more years of college in music (or related field) or equivalent years of related experience in a chapel/church setting.

2. Must possess a broad knowledge of Contemporary music Contemporary and blended style of Praise and Worship music and how to lead a worship service in Contemporary worship style.

3. Be able to plan organize and lead a Protestant contemporary and blended style praise team.

4. Must possess a detailed knowledge of Contemporary music and appropriate ability to perform tasks such as sightreading sheet music for piano play from chord charts and vocal means.

5. Must have a general understanding and support Christian Protestant theology while working in a pluralistic environment in which the worship service is under the direction of the lead Protestant Worship Service Chaplain.

6. Must be proficient at individual singing playing piano/keyboard or guitar and leading congregational singing in a Contemporary Christian musical style Contemporary Christian musical genre and may be accompanied by other musicians as well as playing and singing individually.

7. Possess the ability to develop and maintain a healthy and positive relationship with volunteers Chapel staff contracting officer representative (COR) and parishioners.

8. Be fluent in reading writing and speaking English to perform all responsibilities outlined within the JOB DESCRIPTION.

General Responsibilities. Music Director shall:

1. Provide musical directorship for the Protestant Service at Wright Patterson AFB.

2. Provide musical directorship for a minimum of one rehearsal and one worship service each week.

3. Follow direction of Protestant Service Chaplain for music selection.

4. Lead the praise team and congregation in worship and vocally lead them as required by the Chaplain.

5. Coordinate all support requirements with the Chaplain or their designated representative.

6. Assist the Chaplain or their designated representative in developing as appropriate: annual calendar of events Chapel Tithes and Offerings fund budget Appropriated Fund budget and volunteer training requirements under music programming.

7. Return all governmentowned music equipment obtained in the performance of the required duties following the last service provided under the contract.

8. Not engage in the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted materials by photocopying or any other means that would expose the government to liability for penalties under existing or future copyright laws. The music director will ensure that newly acquired music and equipment are properly identified and that music is catalogued and filed with the Christian Contemporary Licensing Incorporated (CCLI) where applicable.

9. Provide a replacement as necessary to ensure coverage for all responsibilities listed within this JOB DESCRIPTION. The replacement shall meet or exceed the qualifications of the Music director. This will be coordinated with and approved by the COR or their designee at least 10 days prior to the start of performance by the approved replacement.

Approval of a replacement for illness will be handled on a casebycase basis.

10. May be called upon during special services such as funerals memorial services specific religious observances and holy day services and other special services upon request by the chaplain of the Protestant Worship Service the Senior Protestant Chaplain or the Wing Chaplain.

11. Communicate with the assigned Protestant Worship Service chaplain weekly to discuss upcoming music selections.

Specific Responsibilities. Music Director shall:

1. Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of worship services and special services and 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each rehearsal.

2. Submit purchase/repair requests as needed for support of the music program to the contracting officer or their designated representative.

3. Will actively recruit volunteer musicians and singers to ensure a robust music program is offered at the Chapel Protestant Contemporary Worship Service.

4. Be accountable for opening restoring to its neutral setting cleaning and securing any facilities used for music events rehearsals worship services or special services.

5. Maintain a professional attitude and environment to include personal hygiene and appearance.

6. Sing music from a religious music ecclesiastical or suitable type publication resource consistent with the nature of the Protestant Service.

7. Provide arranged and approved music as appropriate for compatibility with the type of worship service or other functions of the Chaplains program at which it was rendered.

8. Provide Audio/Visual (A/V) lyrics (e.g. PowerPoint slides) for all services as required.

9. Attend meetings and/or training related to the music program as identified by the contracting officer or their designee.

10. Be available to attend worship clinics and professional conferences in both music and sound if required. Travel may be required.

11. Be responsible for leading all songs for congregational singing in order to create a worshipful atmosphere during the worship service.

12. Will maintain a good rapport with the Chapel staff base military members and leadership the COR musicians praise team members and congregants.

13. Will coordinate with Protestant worship service chaplain continually review new music releases for suitability of text to the Christian faith the church season and for the performance level of the Chapel Protestant Contemporary Worship Service.

Duty Hours.

1. Music Director shall be required to be present for all rehearsals services and special events at any WrightPatterson Chapel facility. Requirements will vary per season/month and will be established by the Chaplain. The estimated number of events over the course of 12 months is 60 to include a minimum of 60 rehearsals and 1 service per week. The Music Director will coordinate with the lead faith group chaplain on which Chapel facility to render service.

2. For any anticipated absences the music director shall provide a replacement director as necessary to ensure 100% coverage for all responsibilities listed within this JOB DESCRIPTION. The replacement shall meet or exceed the qualifications of the music director. This shall be coordinated with the Chaplain and approved by the contracting officer representative (COR) at least 10 days prior to the start of performance. Absences due to illness or family emergency will be dealt with on a casebycase basis. The music director shall not employ/subcontract any person to perform any of work required by this JOB DESCRIPTION without prior approval.

3. Rehearsals shall be held at an appropriate time to allow for maximum participation of the chapel community and shall be an appropriate length to ensure adequate preparation for performances at weekly services or special services (no less than 1 hour and no more than 3 hours in length).

Other.

1. All liturgies within the parish are at the discretion of the Chaplain.

2. May be required to attend and/or participate in Chaplain Corps annual training.

3. Rehearsals weekly performances and worship services will generally be held in one of the Chapel facilities. Alternate locations may occur during renovations special worship services special circumstances or other extraneous events.

4. Equipment and supplies necessary to accomplish duties will be provided. A piano guitars drums as well as any unique Chapel specific items that will assist the music director will be provided by the WrightPatterson AFB Chapel

5. The music director will comply with all Department of Defense Instructions (DoDI) Air Force Instructions (AFIs) Chapel Operating Instructions (OIs) specifically those regarding facility usage resource protections fire prevention and funds utilization.

The music director will submit facility requests to arrange for use of facilities for all meetings rehearsals worship services and programs.

6. Government Furnished Property. The Wright Patterson AFB Chapel will provide telephone and copier access for official use only. Computer access will not be provided under the terms of this contract. The music director will be issued a key for necessary access to the Chapel facility as needed in performance of the activities scheduled. Government owned instruments and sound equipment are available for the use by the Music Director. Government owned equipment shall not be removed without the permission of the Equipment Custodian or their designee.

7. The Government will maintain proper care of Government owned instruments and equipment. The Music Director shall report to the Chapel staff on the condition of Governments musical instruments and identify any needs for maintenance on them.

The music director will be responsible for repair or replacement of damaged equipment due to negligence or misuse.

Taxes.

The Music Director will be responsible for filing any applicable social security federal state or host nation taxes. The Music Director will obtain any applicable business licenses and registrations as required by law.
