PostgresMySQL DBA

The PostgreSQL and MySQL DBA (Database Administrator) is responsible for managing maintaining and optimizing the performance of PostgreSQL and MySQL databases. They are responsible for ensuring that the databases are reliable secure and available to users.

Install configure and upgrade PostgreSQL and MySQL database software.

Create and maintain database objects such as tables indexes and views.

Monitor database performance and tune the system for optimal performance.

Ensure data security by implementing database security policies access controls and backup and recovery procedures.

Plan and implement database backup and recovery procedures.

Troubleshoot database issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Develop and maintain database documentation including standards procedures and best practices.

Work closely with developers to ensure that database design and performance considerations are incorporated into application design.

Stay uptodate with the latest database technologies and trends.

Main tasks to be performed during contract period:

Do a full review of our environment. Catalog all the servers that have Postgres and MySQL.

Work with current DBA team to identify Business Owners of those servers.

Review and recommend configuration changes.

Ensure nightly/weekly maintenance is correct.

Run health checks on what is currently running there and provide recommended changes.

Configure monitoring in Foglight monitoring software.

Write SOPs and document all the above.

Give training to current DBA team on how to maintain these platforms moving forward.

Other tasks as needed in regard to these two platforms.

Skillset/Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration of PostgreSQL and MySQL.

Strong knowledge of database design and architecture including normalization indexing and partitioning.

Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.

Familiarity with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.

Understanding of database security principles and access control.

Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to troubleshoot database issues quickly.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with developers system administrators and other stakeholders.
