    Crisis Therapists are responsible to provide crisis intervention and intensive case management services to adults with serious mental illness and/or cooccurring substance use disorders who are 18 years of age and older and are at risk for psychiatric hospitalization those who have already been admitted to inpatient psychiatric facilities and those who have demonstrated a high risk for readmission or repeated use of emergency psychiatric services. Crisis Therapists are responsible to conduct thorough and comprehensive assessments for adults who are at risk for psychiatric admission in order to accurately identify their service needs and preferences. They work to deescalate the immediate crisis facilitate engagement in treatment and recovery support services and prevent the need for higher levels of care. Crisis Therapists must maintain an acute awareness of services therapeutic activities and supports available within and outside of the agency that may be of benefit to individuals and their families. They are responsible to help ensure access to services benefits and entitlements monitor and coordinate the delivery of services with other treatment team members service providers and community organizations. Advocacy efforts include community outreach and transportation assistance as needed.

    Crisis Therapists are also responsible to provide screening assessment and crisis intervention services via telehealth for adult members of the community who experience mental health emergencies. They determine the appropriate level of care and services needed and the least restrictive setting in which those services can be provided. Crisis Therapists are required to be available via tablet and/or telephone for calls that are referred for screening and intervention by local police departments that have established business agreements with The Guidance Center. They must be available to respond immediately to crisis calls during scheduled oncall hours. Crisis screening services will be available 24 hours each day including holidays and weekends. Crisis Therapists will share oncall responsibilities during business hours with other ABH team members and will assist with afterhours oncall coverage on a volunteer basis as their individual schedules allow. Regular working hours are Monday thru Thursday 8:30 am to 7 pm and Friday 8:30 to 5 pm. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    OnCall Crisis Referrals:

    1. Respond to crisis calls during and after business hours (as scheduled):
      1. Answer calls to designated oncall crisis tablet and/or phone immediately;
      2. If a call is missed call back within 5 minutes;
    2. Conduct crisis screening protocols via telehealth to assess safety deescalate the situation determine immediate service needs and level of care;
    3. Consult with police and/or other emergency personnel guardian and/or family members regarding safety planning recommendations for intervention and aftercare;
    4. Consult with crisis supervisor to review recommendations and confirm plan for referral to least restrictive environment;
    5. As clinically indicated:
      1. Facilitate referral to inpatient psychiatric facility;
      2. Facilitate referral to COPE as needed;
      3. Facilitate sameday or nextday screening for enrollment in community mental health and/or SUD treatment services via the DWIHN access center;
      4. Facilitate referral for sameday nextday or nextavailable appointment with their assigned or preferred CMH provider for aftercare;
      5. Facilitate referrals for community services i.e. shelter food bank FQHC or primary care provider health department support group etc.
      6. Complete necessary consents and releases of information to facilitate aftercare arrangements.
    6. Place followup phone calls to clients guardians and/or family members and responsible providers the next day and subsequent days as needed to coordinate and confirm that aftercare services have been received;
    7. Document all contacts per established guidelines;
    8. Debrief with crisis supervisor and other members of the treatment team within 24 hours.

    Assigned TGC cases:

    1. Conduct screenings and comprehensive assessments to identify areas of need and service preferences based on information from all available sources;
    2. Provide clients guardians and/or family members with complete and accurate information regarding services and community resources available to meet the identified needs;
    3. Assist clients in determining their eligibility for entitlements community services and supports;
    4. Coordinate with treatment team members and other providers including representatives from state and community hospitals to facilitate successful transition to less intensive services in the community;
    5. Facilitate access to aftercare appointments following discharge from inpatient and residential treatment settings;
    6. Provide transportation assistance as needed until the client is able to access transportation resources independently;
    7. Develop Individualized Plans of Service with clients and other members of their treatment teams;
    8. Provide facetoface inperson office and/or home visits and/or telehealth services to each assigned client based on their needs and preferences and according to the frequency outlined in their IPOS;
    9. Conduct community outreach as needed in order to facilitate client engagement or reengagement and to ensure access to needed services and supports;
    10. Provide crisis intervention crisis and safety planning as clinically appropriate.
    11. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local providers;
    12. Participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision team meetings case consultations and huddles as scheduled;
    13. Document all service activities and phone contacts within expected timeframes;
    14. Perform within acceptable standards of productivity;
    15. Maintain appropriate state licensure and certification;
    16. Make referrals to Recipient Rights Adult and Child Protective Services as required;
    17. Complete 24 hours of program and/or position specific training annually;
    18. Follow The Guidance Center s professional code of ethics;
    19. Abide by all of The Guidance Center policies and procedures;
    20. Other duties as assigned.

    Travel: Mileage Reimbursement when personal vehicle used IRS standard. .64 per mile

    Any training paid for by TGC.

    Paid holidays include: New Year s Eve and New Year s Day Martin Luther King Day day for Good Friday Memorial Day Juneteenth 4th of July Labor Day Thanksgiving and the day after (Black Friday) Christmas eve and Christmas Day.


    Requirement description :

    • Candidates for the Crisis Therapist position must have a minimum of a Master s degree in Social Work Psychology or Counseling and possess the corresponding State of Michigan licensure. Candidates without a state license can be considered but must obtain state licensure (LLMSW LLPC TLLP LMSW LPC or LLP) within a 60day training period beginning on the date of hire. Failure to obtain licensure within the training period will result in the employee being unqualified to perform work functions. Beyond the training period all state licensure must continually remain active in effect and free from disciplinary action.
    • Must possess a valid driver s license and a good driving record and obtain a Michigan Chauffeur License within 30 days of employment.
    • Candidates must obtain the Qualified Mental Health Professional and Substance Abuse Treatment Specialist (SATS) credentials within 120 days of hire.
    • Candidates must possess a CAADC credential or be on an active approved registered MCBAP certification Development Plan within six weeks of hire. Upon hire the application must be submitted for the Development Plan to MCBAP with or without the required trainings within 30 days of hire or they will not be permitted to provide services. Documentation of required trainings must be submitted with the Development Plan Application or within 90 days of hire. Candidates must have one year of experience (may include time spent in fieldwork or internship) treating or working with adults who have been diagnosed with serious mental illnesses.
    • Cannot accept candidates who are on student/work visas and/or require sponsorship to work in the U.S. at this time.

    Candidates for the Crisis Therapist position must have the ability to engage adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders their families and supporters. They must have expertise in helping clients identify their service needs and preferences helping them build on their individual strengths resources and support and navigate the network of services available at The Guidance Center and in the community. They must have an orientation toward providing community outreach services. Candidates must have the ability to provide traumainformed care and appropriately handle crisis situations. They must be able to use technology competently demonstrate effective organizational verbal and written communication skills and work independently. Additional requirements include a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of adults with mental illness and/or substance use disorders their families and providers.
