Position Summary
The Outpatient IR Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Technical Manager or designee and performs Neuro vascular and other Interventional special procedure imaging under Xray CT and Ultrasound guidance. The role of the Outpatient IR Tech supports operational needs and logistics and maintain quality and throughput to achieve the highest level of clinical quality and patient care possible.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Understands and adheres to our Performance Standards Policies and Behaviors
- Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires.
- Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produces good technical images reviewing completed scans for quality and completeness for the type of test ordered.
- Assists physicians during procedures as necessary.
- Call rotation required
- Performs quality assurance and calibrations QA/QC testing as required by regulatory agencies and governing bodies.
- Will be required to adapt and work when emergent procedures or situations arise in the department.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all areas equipment and accessories.
- Reports all malfunctioning equipment and failed QC to the Supervisor/Manager.
- Performs routine office duties such as answering the phones checking previous reports/ films documenting information on patients requests utilizes EMR and PACS systems.
- Notifies appropriate staff upon exam completion to ensure timeliness of next case start time.
- May be assigned as instructor or preceptor.
- Professionally communicates with patients and family members to address questions or concerns.
- Should be knowledgeable and skillful in providing care based on age physical and psychosocial stature of patient populations; pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric groups.
- Ensures all needed medical surgical supplies are ordered circulated properly to avoid expiration and stocked for all cases in each designated area/modality.
- Attends staff meetings and inservices.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- The Radiologic Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography
school or hospital base program. NYS DOH license is required ARRT(R). Previous lead or supervisory
experience is required.
- Advanced ARRT Certification preferred CT Mammography MRI ARDMS or NMTCB.
- Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over two years.
- BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- Radiation dose pledge completed for both Image Wisely/Image Gently through the American College of Radiology (ACR) either during the orientation period or before the end of the probationary period.
- Demonstration of strong leadership qualities and exceptional interpersonal skills required.
