Microbiologist

What we are looking for

We are seeking a motivated and resourceful Microbiologist to help us disrupt the food ecosystem in East Africa by supporting our Research and Development and production of SVT products.

The primary responsibility of this role is to design and implement environmental isolation strategies that target rare or difficult to culture microorganisms. Additional responsibilities include growth culture optimization fermentation optimization highthroughput screening and largescale data analysis.

Duration: Three months contract with the possibility of conversion to fulltime based on performance.

What does the job involve

• Design and implement environmental isolation strategies targeting rare or difficulttoculture microorganisms.
• Optimize growth cultures and fermentation processes for the production of SVT products.
• Conduct highthroughput screening of microbial strains.
• Perform largescale data analysis to identify trends and patterns.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to achieve project goals and timelines.

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in microbiology or a related discipline and 2 years of experience or a relevant Bachelors with 7 years of experience is required
• Experience with laboratory fermentation optimization
• Experience with molecular and traditional taxonomic classification of microbes
• Experience with long term storage and maintenance of a largescale microbial collection
• Experience with next generation sequencing and metagenomics analysis
• A demonstrated record of consistency and accuracy working in a technical environment
• Prior experience working in a team environment and ability to adapt to the atmosphere of a dynamic research organization
• Ability and motivation to learn new techniques and to design new experiments
• Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
• Proficient Computer skills: MS Office other scientific programs as needed
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team.
