About the Opportunity:

We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Design Manager (UK) at Norman Hay
Engineering, based in Coventry, UK with occasional travel to other sites.

Tasks

What will you do?

The Mechanical Design Manager will report to the Operations Manager to manage the NHE design function in accordance with company and international standards, relevant regulatory requirements, and any current national and international legislation. Consider relevant NHE manufacturing techniques and cost drivers during the design process.

  • Ensure designs and drawings are produced on time, to a high quality and can be produced within the agreed budget.
  • Develop and implement successful design strategies, outlining how the design team will create deliverables and implement them for the project.
  • Ensure design teams adopt and make effective use of standard parts and products.
  • Ensure required quality checking/approval procedures are carried out.
  • Co-ordinate efficient outsourcing of workload.
  • Ensure technical deliverables are produced within the required timescales, costs are properly managed within the project objectives and change is tightly controlled and scope properly managed.
  • Keep up to date with changing regulations and ensure compliance with all current technical and HSE regulations.
  • Maintain TCF & TF for all projects and products.
  • Managing a team of engineers, supporting their continued professional development and conducting performance reviews in line with Company procedure.
  • Provide effective performance feedback through employee recognition, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  • Work with Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ
    employees.
  • Maintain employee work schedules including assignments, training, annual leave and paid time off, and cover for absenteeism.
  • Report monthly on performance, set KPI s and manage the design goals.
  • Management/strategy for the Vault and CAD software. Consider the link with other NHE application and how to improve the flow of information.
  • Manage the design budget.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by a Manager of the Company.

Essential Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Engineering Degree with previous experience of design engineering in capital equipment engineering environment minimum of 10 years, ideally within process plant/capital equipment projects environment
  • Extensive knowledge of machinery engineering and all relevant governing regulations
  • Evident experience on Inventor/Vault Minimum of 5 years
  • Previous experience managing a small team of engineers, with a track record of efficiently managing the teams development, training, recruitment, and mentoring activities
  • Previous project management experience
  • Knowledge in Steel and/or Plastic fabrication

Job Skills e.g.

Essential

  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Independent planning, self-organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Capable of working on own initiative, but with understanding of responsibility within the team

Ideal

  • Must be proficient in the use of MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, Project.
  • ERP System would be advantageous.
