As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be responsible for designing products from initial conception to workshop drawings collaborating closely with the Engineering team and other departments to incorporate their input. Additionally you will reengineer past designs with the aim of optimizing products for improved performance and efficiency.

What do you need to succeed

• 3 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
  
• Knowledge of earthmoving machinery and attachments
  
• Proficiency in Process Improvement & Continuous Improvement methodologies
  
• Experience in people management with a focus on training and mentoring for potential future roles involving junior staff. For candidates lacking people management experience a demonstration of openness to training and mentoring junior staff especially with an eye toward potential future offshore team expansion is required.
  
• People Management experience

• Competence in Strategic Planning and Quality Management

• Desirable: Experience at companies with a focus on heavy machinery design.

• Design products from initial conception to workshop drawings collaborating with the Engineering team and other departments.
  
• Reengineer past designs to optimize products.
  
• Prepare workshop drawings for existing modified designs.
  
• Conduct Finite Element Analysis on new and existing designs.
  
• Design and implement costeffective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability.
  
• Develop test and evaluate theoretical designs.
  
• Discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing/production departments subcontractors suppliers and customers.
  
• Ensure product reliability and consistent performance in specified operating environments.
  
• Manage projects using engineering principles and techniques.
  
• Produce specifications and outline designs.
  
• Recommend modifications based on prototype test results.
  
• Utilize research analytical conceptual and planning skills.
  
• Consider implications of issues such as cost safety and time constraints.
  

People Management:

• Provide leadership and direction to assigned labor.
  
• Assist in managing a harmonious environment team building and training of apprentices and employees as required.
  
• Help with technical queries.
  
• Manage relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  
• Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making commercial and operating decisions to achieve business results.
  

Teamwork:

• Effectively relay relevant information to colleagues team members and/or supervisors.
  
• Actively participate in continuous improvement activities.
  
• Share experience knowledge and best practices with colleagues.

• Apply OH&S principles in the workplace at all times.
  
• Maintain good housekeeping principles at workstations.

• Maintain punctuality regarding start and finish times and work overtime as required to meet project schedules.
