About the Opportunity:

We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer (UK) at Norman Hay Engineering, based in Coventry, UK with occasional travel to other sites.

Tasks

What will you do?

The Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the Mechanical Design Manager to complete the design of products in accordance with company and international standards, relevant regulatory requirements and any current national and international legislation.

  • Produce system drawings, general arrangement drawings, sub-assembly drawings and detail part drawings in 2D CAD or 3D Inventor as required.
  • Consider design for manufacture principles on all new and existing product lines. Produce Pipe and Instrumentation Diagrams and Bill of Materials to support project execution.
  • Maintain technical construction files at all times and liaise with Project Managers to ensure issues are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Identify parts for use on equipment, ensuring that where possible, parts are selected from the companies published lists of approved products.
  • Communicate full BoM for products into Purchasing Department to support project requirements.
  • Maintain drawings to the correct issue, ensuring that amendments are carried out and managed in accordance with the Quality Management System.
  • To maintain technical file structures and systems to company and ISO Standards.
  • Implement industry best practice configuration management to company product range.
  • Produce information in a sequence and in a time frame that match the needs of Production.
  • Develop skills and competency framework and individual training plans for Draughting team
  • Provide design support to manufacturing, sales and R&D.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by a Manager of the Company.

Essential Qualifications & Work Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC/HND or BEng/MEng in Engineering.
  • Engineering background with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design office or machine supply technical environment.
  • Experience in a general engineering plant & equipment, process, bulk or bespoke material handling industry.
  • Able to travel for work both locally and overseas
  • Clean Driving License

Job Skills e.g.

Essential

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional Presentation Skills.
  • Able to work in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge in steel fabrication design procedures and techniques.
  • Fluent in Autodesk products (i.e AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault Pro, etc).
  • Able to read and produce P&IDs & Pneumatic Diagrams.
  • Fluent with MS office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc)
  • Creative, proactive and articulate, able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.

Ideal

  • Mechanical calculations skills (i.e. hydraulic calcs, extraction calcs, FEA).
  • Advance Microsoft Excel Skills.
  • Knowing or understanding a technical programming language (i.e matlap, python, etc)
  • Produce Inventor models with iLogic Rules.
  • 3+ years in chemical industry.
  • Knowledge in plastic fabrication design procedures and techniques.
  • Experience in R&D design/testing environemnt.
  • Experience and understanding standard regulations (e.g. CE Marking, risk assessments, FMEA, systems and mechanics).
