Job Title: Machine Operator (Punch Press and Break Press)
Department: Fabrication
Reports To: Fabrication Supervisor
Summary:
Our manufacturing client in Scarborough is seeking a seasoned machine operator must to perform primary operations of shearing, forming and deburring of sheet metal blanks, and fabrication of heavy formed components made out of stainless steel and/or other alloys for our internal customers. The operator must be able to function in a cooperative and supportive manner with all employees and achieve standards of safety, product quality and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up and operate press brake, punch press, shear, fladder and multicyl, as assigned by department supervisor.
Install tooling, program/adjust gauges and squaring arm to various sizes and degrees to shear and form simple to complex parts.
Read travelers, job packets, and follow verbal instruction to ascertain required materials, operation and lot size.
Sort and stack parts received from laser machine as needed.
Perform daily equipment pre-start checks and complete checklist.
Use all personal protective equipment and operate safely
Make adjustments to tooling including the polishing of dies in order to consistently produce good quality parts.
Verify that the quality and quantity of work performed meets standards. Perform firstoff checks and in-process inspections.
Complete MQRS form and prepare necessary documentation as required.
Advise the department supervisor when there is shortage of materials and report all quality defects.
Maintain production process, including the self-balancing flow process in an efficient and effective state.
Maintain a healthy and safe environment by keeping all work areas clean, materials/parts positioned correctly and following safe operating procedures at all times.
Maintain equipment in good functional order and ensure guard are in place.
Report hazards and unsafe conditions to department supervisor immediately.
Report any concern, problems in business or equipment to the department supervisor.
Continuously participate and recommend new method improvement ideas in writing to the department supervisor.
Participate and support projects, charter teams and events to meet the company stated goals and budget.
Perform cell operator duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Lockout/Tag out Experience
Punch Press / Break Press knowledge
High school diploma or general education degree; three years related experience in close tolerance sheet metal forming and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read shop drawings and experience using precision measuring instruments.
Good knowledge of shop and safety practices.
Ability to set up and make adjustments to machinery and tooling.
Ability to operate 25 to 330 Ton punch press and press brake machines.
Experience in welding, product assembly and self-balancing flow process.
Work at a safe and consistent pace with minimal supervision
