What we are looking for

The Head of Carbon Asset Development will be one of the senior leaders in the company reporting directly to the founders. You will be the person with primary responsibility for turning forest restoration opportunities into registered and validated carbon removal projects and ultimately verified carbon units via the application of specialist technical expertise and analysis.

Were looking for a technical expert in forestry naturebased solutions with an appetite to drive tropical forest restoration for carbon and biodiversity impact at unprecedented scale.

You will work with land acquisition restoration and data science and silviculture colleagues to assess project feasibility develop new project designs assess project viability and attractiveness. You will collaborate with field science colleagues to set protocols for monitoring and implementation producing the corresponding reports for publication which will make new projects bankable for investment. You will be our leading source of expertise and experience in producing project design and other validation and verification documentation for naturebased solutions projects (especially ARR).

You will also work closely with colleagues incountry to design projects for all local stakeholders including the structuring of benefitsharing arrangements corporate social responsibility programmes and land leasing under FPIC processes in line with Verra CCB requirements.

With a deep understanding of current and evolving carbon credit standards you will monitor regulatory developments and ensure that our approach to all elements of project development remains bestinclass as new emissions reductions and biodiversity standards evolve potentially developing new protocols or methodologies. You will coordinate with thirdparty MRV providers and auditors applying leading technologies and best practices to ensure continued quality and integrity of our credits.


What does the job involve

  • Lead carbon asset development activities for the company including the production of project design and certification documentation for new projects endtoend ensuring successful submission verification and validation of projects under bestinclass methodologies and standards (both established and new) and which exceed existing regulatory requirements
  • Conduct feasibility analyses to support decisionmaking around new project development including both desk based and ontheground due diligence and have deep knowledge of the technical analysis underlying new and existing restoration forestry carbon projects
  • Create tools and processes for streamlined data gathering analysis and report production and manage a growing team working on carbon asset development workstreams
  • Coordinate with incountry project development and forestry execution and UK scientific analysis teams designing and managing workplans for technical activities related to carbon project implementation and monitoring
  • Manage relationships with carbon and biodiversity credit registries technical consultants and auditors ensuring we remain bestinclass and ahead of the curve as new accreditation and monitoring standards evolve
  • Support land acquisition community engagement business development and carbon and biodiversity credit marketing processes with technical expertise specific to carbon asset development


Qualifications

  • Expertise and proven track record in forestry carbon project development or verification (including ARR) within a project developer consultancy standardsetting body or VVB
  • Deep understanding of carbon standards and methodologies and the carbon asset development process
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in carbon and/or forestry
  • Highly analytical and detailoriented but practical and adaptable approach to problemsolving with an appetite to get involved with both exceptional analysis and ontheground project development workstreams
  • Strong written communication research and analysis skills with an ability to clearly synthesize large amounts of technical information
  • Educated to degree level (postgraduate preferred) in a relevant technical field
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong technical skills including carbon modeling forest biometrics remote sensing and/or GIS
