We are seeking a talented and ambitious finance professional looking to step up to their first financial controller role or a current financial controller looking to make an impact at an international travel company.

About the role

As Financial Controller for TravelLocal you report directly to the Head of Finance and lead the 4 members of the finance team. You will have full responsibility for all aspects of the companys financial operations control and reporting both for the UK and German entities.

You will also play a key role in evolving the finance teams and processes of the two entities and driving efficiency of the combined Group function. Youll need to be equally comfortable with evolving changing and setting up processes managing a team as well as getting your hands dirty when needed and taking ownership of daytoday finance operations control and reporting tax & regulatory compliance and risk management. You would ideally be based within reach of Berlin but we are flexible as the Company operates on a remote first basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the multicountry / remote / distributed finance team and preparing for and delivering the growth of that team.
  • Managing implementing and evolving all systems processes and team resources required to deliver all aspects of the finance operations control and reporting function of the business.
  • Leading preparation of the annual financial statements and local filings working with and coordinating external accountants auditors and tax advisors.
  • Preparation / review the German GAAP accounting policies
  • Review analyse and challenge the Groups transfer pricing allocations and tax strategy for the German and UK entities
  • Delivery of timely accurate and useful monthly financial management information for both entities and on a consolidated basis. Requires accounting for multicurrency multicompany and multicountry operations
  • Overseeing and reviewing of the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Involvement in the preparation of board reporting packs including reporting for management board and VC investor meetings
  • Continual drive to support and improve cash generation profit and margins through effective financial control and commercial acumen
  • Manage a tactical cash flow (receipts and payments) planner and treasury/ transfers (we work mainly in EUR/GBP/USD).
  • Assisting in management of our foreign currency exposures including using forward contracts and hedging.
  • Working with our banks and merchant acquirers/card payment providers of both companies to ensure reliable efficient and convenient payment methods to our customers balanced with working capital efficiencies.
  • Ensuring the timely efficient and controlled payment of our partners employees and suppliers across multiple currencies and almost 100 countries
  • Ensure regular reconciliations between finance system and operations/booking systems (customer & supplier transactions and balances)
  • Manage smaller projects regulatory requests and ad hoc queries from senior management

Requirements

Requirements

The essentials:

  • Fluent German and English (written and spoken)
  • Expertise in finance gained at university (e.g. Bachelor in economics) or through apprenticeship (e.g. Steuerfachangestellter Finanzbuchhalter Bilanzbuchhalter) or you will be a qualified accountant with a minimum of 5 years experience (ideally including both an audit/accountancy firm and in industry/commerce)
  • Experience of a German business/finance environment with experience in German GAAP (HGB)
  • Knowledge of DATEV software
  • Comfortable with establishing new processes/systems and rolling them out to the wider team to follow.
  • A strong focus on accuracy reliable data meeting deadlines combined with commercial acumen.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced and factchanging environment.
  • High levels of organisation and motivation and outofthebox thinking skills.

Youll have an edge if:

  • You have experience in IAS/IFRS as well as UK GAAP
  • You have experience of working in a high growth scaleup environment
  • You have experience in an international business environment with legal/trading entities in more than one jurisdiction particularly Germany/UK/US
  • You have experience of finance systems and integrations
  • You have a passion for travel and social impact
  • You are based near Berlin
