LOCATION

Position is located at the companys global headquarters in Newington New Hampshire along the Seacoast Region sixty miles northeast of Boston and sixty miles southwest of Portland. Newingtons residential district features many historic homes open fields and sweeping vistas of Little Bay and Great Bay. Newington prides itself on being a small town with big city amenities.

HOW YOU WILL HAVE IMPACT

  • The Director Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) will provide fulltime environmental health and safety direction and leadership to support all operations of the companys U.S. Facilities (NH multiple facilities OR AR).
  • Provide strategic leadership of Companys various environmental health and safety (EHS) initiatives to ensure Company maintains and builds upon its reputation as a proactive industry leader.
  • This position will be responsible for compliance with all applicable local state and federal environmental health safety and radioactive material regulations applicable to the above operations.
  • In addition this position will be directly responsible for the administration of workers compensation programs and insurance for all U.S. Facilities.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND

  • B.S. Environmental Health & Safety B.S. Safety Engineering or equivalent
  • Currently working at a Director level in a similar role. (10 years as a Director OR 5 years as a Director with 10 total Director & Sr. Manager)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with one or more of the following hazards: Explosives (required) Radiation and/or Laser (preferred).
  • Prior experience working for a Defense contractor (DOD) is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA practices codes and standards is desired
  • Familiar with the Agile project management approach
  • Exposure to using ERP applications Oracle preferred
  • Able to travel to other company locations in at least once per quarter (NH AR OR).
  • Reside within a reasonable commute to the Newington NH area OR be willing to relocate to the area upon hire and work onsite.
  • Due to government regulations job is open to US Citizens only

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assure that the company continuously improves its EHS performance while maintaining compliance with all regulations.
  • Manage two direct reports (one at HQ and one in another location) and their direct reports (9)
  • Chair or work with various internal and external teams/committees that help develop evolving EHSrelated missions policies programs and respective goals and objectives such as Companys DOT Compliance Committee Offsite Range Safety group Implementation of software and LMS.
  • Serve as an agent of the company and representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including EHS federal state and local agencies customers suppliers industry groups military law enforcement and government entities.
  • Develop environmental health and safety programs and policies applicable to small arms ammunition manufacturing and other Company activities in accordance with EPA OSHA and various state and local environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise leadership and support for all of Companys locations and departments on regulatory compliance issues in EHS.
  • Mentor the EHS team of differing levels to ensure success by standardizing protocols procedures recordkeeping etc.
  • Provide the above insight on all new acquisitions processes and equipment prior to purchase or implementation.
  • Periodically audit EHS programs and policies to ensure continued effectiveness and develop a system for tracking the effectiveness.
  • Review data gathered during investigations of incidents near misses and property damage incidents to determine the root cause. Work with stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are applicable to eliminate the incidents root cause.
  • Ensure collection of and maintain internal and regulatory reporting data.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all regulatory agency inspections audits permitting and reporting.
  • Review and be familiar with all applicable EHS regulatory updates and changes.
  • Ensure the administration of the workers compensation program (WC) and provide the status of claims loss experience trends and program costs to upper management upon request.
  • Ensure required injury and illness records are kept to provide data for loss runs. Track general industry industryspecific and competitors injury/illness rates to gage performance.
  • Oversee Return to Work Program.
  • Act as the company Workers Compensation (WC) representative with legal counsel WC insurers thirdparty WC attorneys and WC bureau on litigated cases.
  • Ensure appropriate management of the inhouse emergency medical response team.
  • Act as corporate Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) ensuring compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State Radioactive Materials programs regulations.
  • Review State and NRC radioactive materials licenses and ensure that Company maintains the licenses requirements.
  • Develop and request amendments to Sealed Source Device Registration and Radioactive Material Licenses.
  • Ensure compliance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations pertaining to hazardous waste. Coordination of storage transportation and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Assess new avenues for waste reduction.
  • Act as the Emergency Coordinator for fire smoke spill and medical.
  • Act as the EHS point of contact for the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) for all contracts.
  • Coordinate annual facilitywide industrial hygiene monitoring to ensure contaminates of concern continue to be eliminated or reduced through engineering and administrative controls. Evaluate the effectiveness of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure the proper management of the EHS training programs and training calendar and ensure recordkeeping of the same.
  • Track costs associated with the implementation of EHS. Continuously monitor the most current pricing to deliver the most costeffective solutions.
  • Implementation of Company environmental management plan as required.
  • Lead the collection of data to ensure the proper authoring of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in accordance with OSHA requirements and those of customer countries.
  • Champion the Company Performance System (SPS) Safety Lean Key as part of the management team. Ensure all members of the EHS team participate.
