The Role:
We are seeking a General Surgeon/Specialist Surgeon to join a supportive team in a beautiful tropical location.

• Total remuneration up to $514,452

• Special interest in Colorectal / Upper GI or Abdominal wall desirable but not essential.

The department caters for a population of about 180 000, in addition to a sizeable number of local and international tourists.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience:

• Demonstrated ability to provide a high-quality surgery service (emergency and elective) as part of a comprehensive public sector health service.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and teach medical, nursing and allied health care staff.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and function effectively within the frame work of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proven skills in organisation, communication and interpersonal relations.
• Possess up to date knowledge and experience in General Surgery.
• Ability to fulfil rostering and on call requirements of the position.
• Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills and ability to supervise and teach staff attached to the department.

The Hospital:
This is a level 2 hospital - 354 beds with 24-hour cardiac intervention, trauma service, medical specialities including Respiratory, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Oncology on site with visiting specialists in other disciplines. A huge variety of pathologies that make the job educational and interesting. Close links with the Universities, with formal appointments for PHO/Registrars as Associate Lecturers.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Registration with the Medical Board of Australia with Specialist recognition, and
• Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is highly desirable.
