The role of the Clinical Nurse Manager II encompasses responsibility for the provision of the highest standard of nursing care to patients in High Dependency Unit. He/she will be responsible for the planning, co-ordination and the effective and efficient management of resources by leading, managing and developing the nursing and healthcare assistant team to ensure excellence in patient care under the designated Anaesthetist Consultant. He/she will also be responsible for maintaining and developing professional standards including developing the scope of specialist nursing practice within the HDU.
Aims
The philosophy guiding the position is to promote and preserve the client, Values and Ethos in the management responsibility of the Hospital in your position as Clinical Nurse Manager II
To work in collaboration with the nursing team to ensure excellence in patient care through a well-educated and highly motivated team of carers and the effective and efficient use of resources.
To plan, implement and evaluate holistic nursing care to patients.
To provide clinical advice, direction and support to nursing staff enabling the development and maintenance of a quality nursing service.
To lead, manage and motivate the nursing team, delegating responsibility and accountability to staff nurses/healthcare assistants as appropriate.
To ensure all incidences/or difficulties concerning patients and staff are reported to the Director of Nursing/ Assistant Director of Nursing, documenting full details while being aware of legal requirements and implications.
To assess, report and respond to complaints from patients and relatives.
To maintain good communication with all staff, patients and relatives.
To co ordinate the activities of the unit liaising effectively with all departments within the Hospital as well as external organisations to ensure the delivery of a quality service to the patients.
To attend C.N.M.II/Heads of Department Meetings.
To participate fully in promoting Best Practice, ensuring the delivery of quality patient care from admission to discharge taking into account the specific needs of individual patients.
To participate with Nursing Management in Service Planning for the Hospital.
To supervise and influence standards of professionalism in the unit e.g. confidentiality, dress code, hospitality and diplomacy.
To deputise for Senior Nursing Personnel as required.
Education
To ensure high levels of professionalism are maintained through continuing education, development and participate in the implementation of a Staff Review and Development System.
To keep up to date with the latest developments in Medicine/Nursing reading current literature, attending lectures, seminars and refresher courses.
To make recommendations to ensure that the hospital is at the leading edge of best practice in patient care.
To stimulate and support clinical and research initiatives to improve patient care.
To orientate new staff when assigned to your ward.
To promote and support the quality process within the Hospital.
To ensure adherence to directives relating to the scope of nursing practice.
To maintain training records of assigned staff.
Complete HDU Competency Assessment
Must be a RGN on the current NMBI Live Register
Must have a minimum of 3-5 years previous clinical experience
Must have a management course or be willing to undertake one
Computer skills desirable
