The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 musician with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

  • 1.BACKGROUND: Roman Catholic Music Director Services in support of the Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois Recruit Memorial Chapel Command s Religious Program (CRP) and the Naval Station Great, Illinois Blue Jacket Memorial Chapel CRP for worship, special events and ceremonies.
  • 2.TASK: The musician shall perform the duties of Roman Catholic Director of Worship and is required to support the missions and responsibilities of the Recruit Training Command Great Lakes Chapel Command Religious program and the Naval Station Great Lakes Bluejacket Memorial Chapel. The services shall include, but not limited to the following:
    1. This position will be up to five (5) years.
      1. Provide for two Roman Catholic Sunday services per week and two rehearsals each week.
      2. Provide for special services including, but not limited to: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Years, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, memorial services and special events not to exceed 10 services per year in coordination with the Command Chaplain.
      3. Provide accompaniment for Command Memorial Services as needed: 5 services yearly.
    2. Recommend relevant musical selections to the officiating Chaplain; lead the congregation in appropriate worship music with the support of a choir.
    3. The musician shall consult weekly with the Officiating Chaplain prior to planning and providing music for all services, i.e. (worship services, memorial services, and special events). The final determination of musical selections shall be made by the Officiating Chaplain.
    4. The musician shall arrive for all services no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the service.
    5. Musician shall possess the ability to develop rapport, and promote teambuilding within the Roman Catholic volunteer choirs, praise teams, and/or other choral groups.
    6. Notify the Command Chaplain by telephone and email between 2-3 hours ahead of scheduled time when unable to perform services due to illness, inclement weather, and/or emergencies.
    7. Provide a pre-approved substitute when unable to perform services required as depicted in this PWS at no additional cost to the government. Command Chaplain must be notified of planned substitutions two weeks in advance of arranged absences (i.e. vacations and holidays).
    8. Provide a list of possible substitutes in advance of requirements for pre-approval and processing of base access.
    9. Submit all requests for supplies and music to the Command Chaplain as necessary. The musician shall not obligate the Chapel for any purchases; no reimbursements shall be made. All music, supplies, and literature shall remain the property of the Chapel.
  • 3.PLACE OF PERFORMANCE: The musician shall perform services on site at the following locations:

Recruit Training Command, Recruit Memorial Chapel
3355 Illinois Street, Bldg. 1301
Great Lakes, IL 60088

Bluejacket Memorial Chapel
320A Dewey Avenue, Building 3
Great Lakes, Illinois 60088.

  • 4.MUSICIAN QUALIFICATIONS: Musician proposed for these services shall have the pre-requisite skills and experience consistent with musicians whose background and experiences are acceptable to chapel requirements.
    1. Pre-requisite skills will be based on the following criteria:
      1. Shall have a clear understanding of Navy organization and the pluralistic ministry requirements that affect the use of chapel facilities and staff.
      2. Shall have at least two years of pianist, and/or organ experience with a Roman Catholic congregation or religious worship.
      3. Shall demonstrate requisite skills in a variety of sacred musical genres appropriate for a variety of sacred music styles found in Roman Catholic Mass.
      4. Shall provide instrumental accompaniment on guitar, and/or piano as directed by the Roman Catholic priest.

This is a part-time position with compensation based on budget and the successful candidate s experience and qualifications.
