Job Summary:

The Category Manager is an experienced analytics professional and strategic thinker who will be responsible for providing reporting, analytics, and insights support for National Retail Chains. Requires a self-motivated, entrepreneurial approach while also possessing a strong commitment to team environment dynamics and collaboration across multiple departments. The position will increase the utilization of our existing data, analytic tools & systems and will support the evolution of future analytic capabilities to build brands, grow sales, and achieve company goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for leading efforts to provide data-driven presentations with insights, opportunities, and recommendations to optimize category and sales (assortment, pricing, promotions, & merchandising).
  • Integrates information from multiple data sources interprets it into key insights and proactively communicates clear and actionable recommendations to drive growth
  • Manages the timely and accurate communication of key business reports to NRD Sales Leads while working to identify opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Manages advanced custom analytics projects with internal partners to measure the effectiveness of sales and marketing activities and provides recommendations to improve performance
  • Manages relationships with internal and external retail partners effectively, and explores, evaluates, and recommends new approaches to the business
  • Collaborate across functions to develop & implement Assortment Optimization, Promo Optimization, and Revenue Optimization resources and selling tools to build brands.
  • Work closely with Category Business Analyst, Category Space Manager, and Consumer/Shopper Insights teams to create streamlined and integrated solutions for the NRD team and distributor partners.
  • Evaluate current reports and create new tools needed by the Sales team for understanding performance trends and opportunities within their business.
  • Research, analyze, and share relevant findings about emerging trends and opportunities within the category. Monitor performance & update standardized monthly retail reporting for internal & external customers.
  • Support NRD Sales Leads with J oint Business Planning, QBRs, Top-to-Tops, and New Item Presentations.
  • Support select NRD accounts with post-promo evaluations and promotional strategy insights.
  • Serve as a resource for NRD Sales leads & select retail customers to provide category expertise, conduct research, and propose/manage pilots.
  • Provide ad-hoc assistance as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of sales or category management experience with a CPG supplier, distributor, or retailer, preferably within the Wine & Spirits categories.
  • Experience with complex data sets & analysis, as well as defining and solving complex category, departmental, or corporate problems.
  • Understands the CPG industry, retail and on-premise channels and strategies, category management, space management, shopper insights, and shopper marketing concepts
  • Expert computer skills are required; strength in Excel, PowerPoint, multi-dimensional tables, and Microsoft BI, and the ability to report, graph, and present complex information
  • Experience with syndicated data, retailer scan data, panel data, and supplier distributor shipment, depletion, and inventory.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to translate data into insights and clear actionable recommendations to influence business strategy
  • Self-motivated, self-starting, entrepreneurial approach while also possessing a strong commitment to team environment dynamics
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn new data systems and apply new sources of information to the analytic framework.
  • Strong understanding of how analytics impact sales effectiveness and business strategy
  • Strong project management skills and ability to plan and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid business acumen and problem-solving skills. Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement are essential. Must be highly organized
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Creativity in sales stories.
