WHAT YOU’LL DO
RefugePoint has grown considerably in recent years – increasing our budget from $7M to over $14M since 2021 – and is poised for significant growth. At this critical inflection point we are seeking an Associate Director of Development to oversee and drive individual major giving. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer(CDO) the Associate Director of Development will:
  • Design implement and lead a robust major gift strategy including setting annual targets and metrics and developing donorspecific plans for engaging current prospective and lapsed donors.
  • In close partnership with the CDO CEO and Major Gift Officer take ownership of RefugePoint’s portfolio of individual donors with a focus on major donors with capacity to make 58 figure multiyear gifts. Ensure a highly coordinated effort for donor identification qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship across the team.
  • Build and manage a personal portfolio of donors ensuring hightouch cultivation and leveraging the CEO Board and other key staff in advancing donor relationships making asks and stewarding gifts.
  • Supervise mentor and guide the work of a Major Gift Officer (MGO) who is responsible for managing the donor pipeline maintaining a portfolio of major and midlevel donors and closely supporting the CEO’s portfolio.
  • Support MGO in donor prospecting inclusive of using available tools (e.g. iWave) to research and qualify prospective donors and develop individualized strategies for cultivation.
  • Work closely with program staff to capture impact stories and data that can be leveraged in donor communications (e.g. concept notes proposals presentations annual appeals.) Partner with the entire development and communications team to ensure alignment of messaging and outreach.
  • Oversee the continuous improvement and high usage of Salesforce for donor information and touchpoints. Set and manage to metrics for moves management.
  • In partnership with the CDO develop a strategy for planned giving inclusive of stock and legacy gifts and lead the implementation of this strategy.
  • Support the planning and execution of large and smallscale events including an upcoming 20th Anniversary gala house parties and donor visits to program sites.

  • You are an experienced major gift fundraiser and development leader. You bring at least 8 years of work experience in development including at least 2 in a leadership role with a track record of qualifying cultivating soliciting and stewarding individual major donors giving at a 57 figure level. Experience fundraising in international development/refugee serving organizations is a plus.
  • You are a strategic thinker with the ability to implement tactically. You approach fundraising through an analytical lens and take a handson approach to translating strategy into tangible activities and goals. You create solid work plans and are experienced in implementing donorspecific strategies that are informed by data and best practice.
  • You are a supportive people manager who provides clear direction and enables others to take ownership of their roles. You have at least 2 years of experience managing direct reports with skill in setting and managing to metrics and goals. You manage up/down/across and ensure that others’ have the resources and information needed to stay accountable to goals.
  • You are an exceptional writer storyteller and communicator. You grasp new concepts create compelling narratives and effectively communicate complex ideas in ways that inspire a variety of audiences. Excellent drafting editing and proofreading skills are required.
  • You are a thoughtful relationship builder who develops rapport easily. You have a warm energetic and authentic personality that translates to building lasting relationships. You are confident in your interactions with donors and are experienced at concurrently managing multiple donor relationships at different stages of the donor lifecycle.
  • You are actionoriented and a resourceful project and task manager. You thrive in a lean nonprofit setting with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of growth and change. You possess a “get it done” attitude with the ability to drive innovation solve problems and maintain a high degree of flexibility and creativity in a dynamic environment.

The following experiences are not required but strongly preferred:
  • Experience with planned giving
  • Experience planning and/or supporting fundraising events focused on major donors

LOCATION SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
For Bostonbased staff this is a hybrid position with 2 days/week in office preferred. For staff who are not in the Boston area there is an expectation of frequent travel to the Boston office. Staff have the option to work 4day (10 hours/day) or 5day (8 hours/day) work week.

The salary for this position is $112582. Benefits including 32 days of PTO (combined sick and vacation) in addition to 12 major holidays 8 weeks of paid parental leave and 4 weeks of unpaid parental leave pretax flexible spending accounts comprehensive health and dental benefits with a significant portion of the premiums paid by the organization shortterm and longterm disability and life insurance and 401k plan with match up to 6% after 1 year of service.
