Applied Macroeconomics Specialist (P2) at the International Labour Organization Department of Statistics.

Location: Geneva Switzerland. Application deadline 15 March 2024.

Tasks

Primary responsibilities:

This assignment is located in the Data Production and Analysis Unit (DPAU) of the ILO Department of Statistics. DPAU is responsible for the collection production and dissemination of labour statistics published on ILOSTAT the ILOs central statistical database and for the development and maintenance of numerous econometric models designed to produce national regional and global estimates for the ILO modelled estimates data series.

Under direct supervision and within the policy and procedural requirements established by the ILO the incumbent will contribute to maintaining and further developing the ILO modelled estimates data series and the related econometric models. In particular the incumbent will contribute to modelling tools for labour market simulations imputation of labour statistics policy impact scenarios and labour market analysis.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

Education

Advanced university degree in macroeconomics or econometrics (PhD preferred).

Experience

At least two years of relevant professional experience. The experience must include applied econometric modelling in the fields of macroeconomics or development economics.

Languages

Excellent knowledge of English. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be an advantage.

Competencies

Technical competencies:

  • Excellent economic modelling skills and knowledge of econometric tools.
  • Excellent knowledge of software commonly used for applied economic analysis i.e. STATA R MATLABOctave EViews is essential. Willingness to learn STATA required.
  • Ability to carry out economic research and draft highquality papers and reports.
  • Ability to design and apply empirical strategies for applied macroeconomic research and causal inference is essential.

Behavioural competencies:

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines engage in teamwork work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gendersensitive and nondiscriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to internal and external audiences in a clear manner.

Logistics:

A oneyear fixedterm contract will be given. The candidate should be able to start as of May 2024. The post requires fulltime dedication.
