Job Overview
The Department of Mathematics is accepting applications for Unit 11 Teaching Associate positions for the Fall 2026.
Attends assigned class time and provides classroom instruction for course number MATH 150.
- Must attend every class time and lead classroom discussion under supervision of faculty member.
Prepares syllabus prepares lesson plan and course materials collaboratively for each class and maintains expertise in subject area.
- Prepare class syllabus based on the template provided by the supervising faculty member.
- Identify course requirements and reading materials for students.
- Make assignments to students such as homework assignments quizzes exams reports etc.
- Read and stay current with recent developments in the field.
Assesses student performance and determines course grades for each student
- Determine grading scale and grading criteria for all assignments.
- Grade student work using well defined grading rubric.
- Determine overall course grade for each student.
Provides assistance to students during office hours
- Hold weekly office hours and provide assistance to students as needed.
This position also includes the requirement to fully participate in the Math Teaching Associate Training Workshop to be held during on August 25 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m..

The Teaching Associate classification provides currently enrolled or admitted CSU graduate students with parttime employment offering practical teaching experience in fields related to their advanced study. They teach university courses and may also assist faculty or teaching staff with various professional and technical activities. Work assignments are closely associated with their program of study or the academic department in which they are enrolled.

General Minimum Qualifications of the Position:
- Admission or registration as a CSUSM student
Anticipated Pay Rate
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3245-$4000 CSU Classification Salary Range: $3245-$7598
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
Instructional Student Assistants are non-exempt employees. CSU policy limits work assignments to no more than 20 hours in a week in all campus positions combined while students are in session.
