Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI)is looking to Hire anIntern - Construction Field Inspection(2026 Summer Internship Program)!We are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. As a valued Intern at IEI you will participate in an eight-week program to gain hands-on experience in a rotation format working between Field Inspection/Observation Office Engineering and Administrative Coordination as well as under the supervision of our leading professionals. This internship will provide you with exposure to real projects and the opportunity to work alongside senior staff and build you skills ask questions and benefit from their extensive knowledge. Join our IEI Team and make an impact in shaping the future!


What Youll Do
  • Our interns work full time Monday - Friday during all 8 weeks of the Internship (June 15 - August 7 2026)
  • Must be available to work 5-days Onsite
  • Being a part of the internship program gives you early access to our full-time post-graduation opportunities
  • Under the supervision of Senior Construction staff:
    • Gain experience existing drawings
    • Attend design staff meetings
    • Create basic Excel tables
    • Organization management - scan and file projects
    • Transfer markups to Adobe pdf
    • Review existing conditions and existing site photo
    • Assist the Project Managers Rail Coordinator and/or Project Engineers in reviewing complaints and resolving problems
    • Visit Project Site with Senior Staff
    • Perform compilation of data and assist in converting the compiled data into plans
    • Learn to estimate materials cost
    • Learn to interpret technical documents
    • Develop knowledge of engineering standards as well as state and local regulations
    • The IEI Internship program offers exposure to a blend of field and office knowledge

  • Actively enrolled in and pursuing a degree at an accredited Civil Engineering Construction Management or closely related Undergraduate Program
  • You must be authorized to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship for the internship and/or future employment
  • Demonstrated interest in infrastructure or related field and a strong desire to advance skills related to IEIs work and projects
  • Capable to communicate and interact effectively and successfully with project managers project engineers and other staff
  • Demonstrate strong verbally and written skills using proper spelling grammar and punctuation
  • Enjoys working in a diverse and inclusive work environment
  • Must a be self-starter reliable self-motivated inquisitive and thrive on figuring things out
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and take initiative
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook) MS Teams and navigating the Internet

Learning Objectives
  • Develop basic competency / awareness of industry standards
  • Acquire real world written and verbal communication and become comfortable talking to clients and co-workers
  • Knowledge of structure of weekly meetings
  • Develop knowledge of client expectations (needs and wants of clients)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Actively enrolled in and pursuing a degree at an accredited Civil Engineering Construction Management or closely related Undergraduate Program
  • Good problem-solving and analytical ability
  • Good organizational skills and attention to details
  • Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus a plus

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards; and requires the ability to walk short distances and occasionally requires lifting and caring smaller parcel packages and other items while walking short distances. May occasionally require work outdoors while visiting project sites in various weather conditions possibly for an extended period depending on the assignment type. May encounter uneven/unlevel ground loud/noisy construction equipment while visiting an active construction worksite. Requires wearing PPE while on worksite.
