Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Systems Engineer to oversee maintain and architect our enterprise reporting ecosystem. You will serve as the technical backbone and lead developer for our BI platformsLooker Cognos and Jasperensuring high availability performance and the delivery of actionable business insights. This role requires a unique blend of platform administration end-to-end dashboard development and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices to ensure our data infrastructure is both resilient and highly valuable to stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- BI Solution Development: Design develop and deploy complex high-impact dashboards and reports across Looker Cognos and Jaspersoft to meet diverse business needs.
- SRE & Reliability Engineering: Apply SRE tenetsincluding Service Level Objectives (SLOs) Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Error Budgetsto ensure the reporting ecosystem meets strict uptime and performance targets.
- Platform Administration: Manage the full lifecycle (installation configuration and upgrades) for BI platforms.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use Terraform to maintain and scale environments across Dev QA and Production.
- Toil Reduction & Automation: Orchestrate deployments and automate repetitive administrative tasks using GitHub Actions and Armada to eliminate manual toil.
- Performance & Scalability: Monitor system health on GCP optimizing resource allocation and performing root-cause analysis for system failures to prevent recurrence.
- Security & Governance: Manage SSO/SAML authentication RBAC and data security folders.
- Version Control & CI/CD: Manage the code base for LookML and report definitions enforcing rigorous code reviews and branching strategies in GitLab.
Technical Qualifications
- BI Development & Admin: Expert-level experience in developing and administering Looker IBM Cognos and Jaspersoft.
- SRE Principles: Proven experience implementing SRE practices including incident management post-mortems and capacity planning.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with GCP services like GCE GCS and IAM.
- Automation: Proficiency with Terraform GitHub Actions and Armada deployment frameworks.
- Databases: Strong SQL skills and familiarity with cloud data warehouses like BigQuery.
Required Technical Skills
- Expertise: 5 years in Systems Engineering BI Administration or BI Development.
- Looker: Expert-level knowledge of LookML development dashboard design and API-based administration.
- Cognos: Deep experience with Report Studio/Framework Manager and Content Manager maintenance.
- JasperSoft: Proficiency in Studio report design Server administration and Tomcat/JBoss optimization.
- Observability: Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus Grafana or GCP Cloud Monitoring) to track SLIs and system health.
- Web Servers: Experience configuring and troubleshooting Apache and Tomcat.
