Description of Work

NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement.
This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave health insurance and retirement.
This is an Engineering Technician I position located in the Pender County Roadside Environmental Office involving technical work supporting technicians and engineers in construction inspection surveying materials sampling testing erosion control and construction traffic control.
This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling analyzing computing editing and processing field data.
This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations.
This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. You must perform a full range of calculations and computations and be proficient in record keeping.
You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Management prefers applicants with the following:

Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment iPad and software
Experience in customer service and interacting with the general public

Additional Expectations:

Management prefers applicants with the following:

Knowledge and understanding of general concepts practices and theories used in construction construction inspection and /or construction surveying
Experience planning developing scheduling tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Experience in maintaining neat legible and accurate records and reports including computer/iPad data entry

Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes required. The selected candidate may be subject to non-traditional hours work nights and weekends as needed due to construction inspection/operations and during inclement weather/disaster events. The selected candidate may be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work in adverse weather conditions to include heat and cold. This position also requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associates degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
