Water Operator Trainer
The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services training and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. By offering a wide range of specialized services and expertise OFNTSC helps to enhance the quality of life promote technical self-sufficiency and foster economic growth within these communities.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Water Operator Trainer to join our team at OFNTSC. Under the guidance of the CRTP Supervisor the Water Operator Trainer will play a crucial role in training First Nation Water Treatment Plant Operators coordinating and scheduling CEUs and OJTs for First Nation operators and supporting operators in maintaining current licenses. This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the operations of a Class II water treatment plant strong oral and written communication skills and a valid Class II Water Treatment and Water Distribution Operator license.
These tasks must be executed in alignment with the culture and values of OFNTSC while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
- Train First Nation Water Treatment Plant Operators in the operation and maintenance of community water and wastewater infrastructure through on-site OFNTSC Certified Education Units (CEUs) and On-the-Job Training (OJT).
- Coordinate and schedule CEU & OJT training for First Nation Operators.
- Support Operators in maintaining current licenses and achieving higher levels of
- Develop capacity within First Nations by mentoring and supporting individuals interested in pursuing careers as Water Treatment Operators.
- Create monitor and submit accurate OFNTSC CRTP Operator Training Plans.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to First Nations Operators as needed.
- Respond to operators inquiries and concerns promptly professionally and courteously.
- Travel to First Nation communities to provide training ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely submission of training documentation.
- Track monitor and maintain their own professional training and certification to ensure compliance with OFNTSC requirements and uphold certification standards.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the OFNTSCs CRTP CEU training library.
- Participate in OFNTSC and client-related seminars conferences and training events to stay current with industry standards.
- Attend OFNTSC CRT training events to maintain professional knowledge and certification compliance.
Qualifications:
- Valid Class II Water Treatment & Water Distribution Operator licenses.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the operations of a Class II Water Treatment Plant.
- Experience working with an Indigenous organization and understanding First Nations cultures is considered a significant asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office database functions and maintenance management
- Demonstrates effective time management prioritization and initiative with the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and mechanical aptitude including familiarity with SCADA GIS and CMMS Systems.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge understanding and experience with the application of related Provincial legislation and acts. (Occupational Health & Safety Act) Ontario Water Regulation Act Safe Drinking Water Act Environmental Protection Act).
Conditions:
- Reliable and insured vehicle and a valid Ontario Class G drivers license.
- Must maintain or obtain a Class III certificate of competency for Water Treatment as per the regulations of the Ontario Water Resources Act O. Reg. 170/03 within 1 year.
- Must have at least five years of progressive proven full-time maintenance experience.
- Ability to work in industrial environments including exposure to noise weather chemicals and wastewater treatment processes.
- Must be available after regular working hours for emergency situations or on-call for a cluster of Unaffiliated First Nation WTP sites throughout the Northern and Southern Ontario regions.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout the Province of Ontario on a weekly basis.
