Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
The County Casework Supervisor Services to Adolescents Unit position regularly supervises up to five (5) full-time caseworkers responsible for providing services to adolescents and their families with children reported to be neglected dependent or out of parental control.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports directly to a Program Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position is responsible for regular supervision of up to (5) full time caseworkers in the Services to Adolescents Unit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION
Directs plans and coordinates the work of caseworkers via individual case conferences and unit meetings.
Reviews case assignments through direct observation and review of paperwork in order to ensure provision of services to compliance with state and federals regulations and agency policy and procedure.
Participates in agency and interagency staffing administrative meetings unit meetings court hearings multi-disciplinary team meetings etc. to ensure service provision.
Assigns cases received from other Children Youth & Families units and reviews and approves the transfer and closing of cases within the unit.
Reviews Family Service Plans Child Permanency Plans Court Reports Case notes and other written materials for content and accuracy.
Functions as a back-up to the caseworker and handles cases in the absence of the worker.
Assists caseworkers in the performance of their duties and in select situations intervenes with families and the community and obtains judicial intervention in emergency protective situations in select situations.
Orients and trains new agency staff and provides ongoing staff training.
Participates in the provision of ongoing staff training and development to develop expertise and factual knowledge.
Serves as agency representative or liaison with community groups and service providers and educates the public in regard to agency policy and program.
Acts as liaison between administration and casework staff and effectively communicates with both.
Reviews and approves invoices for purchased services authorized on the clients behalf.
Grants vacation personal and compensatory leave while assuring adequate unit coverage.
Completes probationary annual and interim performance evaluations for all supervisees in the unit.
Prepares reports and correspondence as needed or requested and maintains necessary records as required.
Maintains professional growth and development via trainings seminars conferences and through review of current professional literature.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Two years of professional experience in public or private social work and a bachelors degree with major course work in sociology social welfare psychology gerontology criminal justice or other related social sciences; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and education which includes 12 college credits in sociology social welfare psychology gerontology criminal justice or other related social sciences.
Employee assigned to this title will be required to possess and maintain a valid and current motor vehicle operators license. Must have an acceptable driving record. Personal vehicle required for County business employee is eligible for mileage reimbursement.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the basic principles of supervision.
Knowledge of current case management and social work principles practices and methodology.
Knowledge of individual and group behavior and methods used in working effectively with children youth and families people who are mentally disabled people who are physically challenged and others.
Knowledge of the basic principles and methods of program interpretation and community organization.
Knowledge of the rules regulations policies and procedures that relate to the provision of social services.
Knowledge of the regulations governing the provision of foster care permanency services concurrent planning and adoption and interprets these to all agency staff.
Knowledge of current social economic and health problems and available resources.
Ability to plan organize and supervise the work of a professional and non-professional social service staff.
Ability to analyze interpret and evaluate case records and recommend sound courses of action.
Ability to orient and train subordinates on rules regulations policies and procedures and provide technical assistance.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients families agency staff community service agencies and facilities and the general public.
Ability to clearly express ideas verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ability to read write speak understand and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
