About the role

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Design and Social Context(DSC) the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research & Innovation (ADVC R&I)providesstrategic leadership and expert advice in shaping and executing the Colleges multi-year research strategy.

The role leads the development of research strategycapabilityand performance including research support services and fosters strong relationships and joint initiatives across Schools research centres and University portfolios.

It also provides leadership inidentifyingand evaluating emerging research and innovation opportunities aligned with College and University priorities.

The ADVC R&I willfoster developmentof research groups and centresprovidementorshiptoemergingresearch leaders and the forgepartnerships across industry and government. Thisultimategoalof the role is tostrengthen research excellencecollaborationand impact.

The ADVC R&I also has responsibility for Higher Degree Research (HDR) leadership research governance and the effective delivery of research performance and investment across the College.

Key priorities

  • Lead implementation of the University Research Strategy within the College including development of aligned College strategies planspoliciesand initiatives.

  • Build on and further develop strategic initiatives ensuring continued growth in research impact and visibility.

  • Lead the development of cross-disciplinary research concentrations that strengthen collaboration across Schools and disciplines.

  • Strengthen research performancecultureand capability across the College with a focus on professoriate early careerresearchersand research-active staff.

  • Drive the Colleges research reputationoutputsand impact nationally and internationally including performance reporting and KPI oversight.

  • Support Schools in securing competitive research funding and strengthening collaborative research with industrygovernmentand community partners.

  • Provide leadership for Higher Degree Research (HDR) programs ensuring qualityefficiencyand alignment withcollegeresearch priorities.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Proven experience in senior leadership of an organisational unit within a research or higher education environment.

  • Strong understanding of current research policy fundingsystemsand priorities in the tertiary sector.

  • Demonstrated research leadership including initiating and managing programs or initiatives that improve research performance and culture.

  • Experience delivering strategic initiatives aligned to sustainability regeneration and/or Pacific-focused agendas.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary collaboration and build effective partnerships across academic and professional domains.

  • Strongtrack recordin external engagement with industrygovernmentand research organisations.

  • Experience managing research governance including risk compliance intellectualpropertyand ethical considerations

  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and influencing skills with the ability to build trust and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
