Job Summary
- Core Hard Skills (Design & Drafting Capabilities)
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in UG NX (preferred) or SolidWorks for 3D die design. Highly skilled in AutoCAD and PressCAD for 2D strip layout and component detailing.
- Strip Layout Design: Proven ability to independently design strip layouts for precision terminal progressive dies (2040 stations). Deep understanding of carrier design pilot pin placement and micro-lancing to ensure stable strip feeding at high speeds.
- Bending & Springback Control (Critical): Expertise in various forming processes (V-bend U-bend Z-bend embossing bridging). Must be able to predict and pre-compensate for springback based on material properties (yield strength) and incorporate adjustment mechanisms (e.g. wedges slides) into the design.
- Anti-Marking & Anti-Slug Retention:
*Anti-Marking:* Experience designing stripper inserts with localized clearance air-blow structures and lifter pins to prevent marks on pre-plated (tin/gold) sensitive surfaces.
*Anti-Slug Retention:* Proficient in designing shear angles undercut relief grooves on punches and vacuum suction holes to prevent slug pulling/jumping.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor degree.
- 35 years of independent design experience specifically in precision connector/terminal progressive dies. (Automotive terminal experience is highly preferred over consumer electronics due to tighter tolerances and harder materials).
- High-Speed Press Familiarity: Experience designing dies for high-speed presses Understanding of how press parameters (SPM feed length) impact die structure and strip stability.
- Tryout & Troubleshooting: Must be willing to work on the shop floor. Hands-on experience attending T0/T1 tryouts. Ability to read CMM/Vision system reports and quickly determine corrective actions (e.g. shimming grinding adjusting forming inserts to fix springback).
- Material Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of stamping characteristics and appropriate die clearances for C2680 (Brass) C5191/C5211 (Phosphor Bronze) C7521 (Nickel Silver) SUS301/304 (Stainless Steel) and high-strength copper alloys.
Preferred
- Composite Die Experience: Experience with in-die riveting/clinching for dissimilar metals (e.g. Copper Aluminum Copper Steel).
- Welding Integration Awareness: Understanding of laser welding requirements. Ability to design pre-weld over-forming tolerances to ensure flush weld joints and mitigate post-weld thermal distortion risks in the stamping design phase.
- Recoiling Considerations: Awareness of nesting/interlocking risks for embossed/bent strips during recoil incorporating appropriate pilot and clearance designs in the strip layout
