Purpose:
The licensed professional counselor is responsible for providing group and individual counseling to students enrolled at Ohio Dominican University. This includes taking responsibility for crisis management consultation and educational and prevention programming to support healthy student growth and development.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Provide individual group couples and family counseling services for students.
- Responsibilities may include assisting the director with interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work. This will pertain to student workers as well.
- Develop and implement strategic goals for the Office in keeping with the mission and strategic plan of ODU.
- Work closely with HR in providing training and support to faculty and staff around student issues.
- Coordinate and chair the Campus Wellness Council and to chair various programs under the Wellness Council.
- Collaborate with the University Health Center with regard to services provided to mutual student clients.
- Provide leadership for monitoring student needs and the development/modifications of Center programs to meet those needs; consult on an ongoing basis with faculty staff and administration concerning proactive approaches to current campus mental health issues.
- Participate in the Universitys crisis intervention services and referral of students.
- Collaborate with residence halls to identify student needs and train Residence Hall staff to respond to mental health issues impacting students.
- Implement a system of referrals for students to be used by faculty and staff residence life staff and the general university staff; initiate professional referrals to psychiatrists and community mental health specialists to address particular student needs.
- Consult with faculty and administration regarding interests needs and problems of students.
- Work closely with students faculty Student Development staff Human Resources Academic Advising Academic Affairs and other offices across campus in fulfilling job responsibilities.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as necessary & encourage professional development in staff members.
- Office: Lights on door open or ajar when free professional attire at all times
- Other duties may change or be assigned based on need

Education/Experience:
A minimum of a Masters Degree in counseling psychology counseling education or related area is required with five years professional staff experience including a minimum of two years administrative experience in counseling in a higher education setting or mental health agency. Must be licensed by the State of Ohio as an LPC LPCC LISW or Psychologist. Additional requirements include: demonstrated management and administrative skills; demonstrated commitment to providing educational programs consultation and mediation and demonstrated sensitivity to the unique needs of minorities and women. Exceptional supervisory and communication skills along with the ability to work collaboratively with departments across campus are needed to do the job successfully. Proficiency with MS Office Word and Excel.
Communication Skills/Requirements:
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements work in progress work completion and status of departmental goals. Strong interpersonal skills combined with a genuine concern for people and the ability to listen and torelate with people of all ages and walks of life are required for this position. The ability to utilize active listening skills to ascertain areas of need define problems and determine possible solutions to meet expressed needs is also required. The Director of Counseling Services must be able to demonstrate leadership tact diplomacy professionalism and a positive demeanor in performance of all duties.
Mathematical Ability:
Able to use math to add subtract multiply or divide and may work with fractions decimals or percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
Most work is complex and requires a high level of judgment. Requires the ability to decide on a course or sequence of action and to direct others in that course of action. Must have continuous visual and mental attention while performing responsibilities of the position. Must be able to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to reasonably envision future needs and plan accordingly.
Work Environment:
Office. Exposed to minimal hazards in office environment. Some evening and weekend work required as well as responding to emergency situations.
