Job Summary

Starting Pay:$18.00/ hour up to 14 hours per week
Location: This position works on site at program program locations include Vandenburg Park Wetmore Park and Rolling Prairie & The Element neighborhoods.
Hours: June-August
Monday: 12:45 to 3:15 pm
Tuesday: 12:45 to 3:15 pm
Wednesday: 12:30 to 6:30 pm
Thursday: 12:45 to 3:15 pm

The Youth Mentor engages youth and teens (K-12) through relationship-based mentorship creative programming and consistent presence. This role focuses on building trust fostering belonging and supporting young people in their personal social and academic growth.

This position operates with awareness of social determinants of health and systemic inequities using a culturally responsive and racially conscious approach to ensure programming is relevant and affirming for the communities served.

Essential Job Functions

Youth Mentorship and Engagement

  • Build strong consistent relationships with youth and teens
  • Create a safe inclusive and engaging environment
  • Serve as a positive role model and support youth in developing confidence identity and life skills
  • Encourage youth leadership voice and goal setting
  • Maintain communication and connection with families
Programming and Activities
  • Plan and lead engaging activities including recreation arts and life skills
  • Adapt programming to meet the interests and needs of youth especially teens and k-5 school aged children
  • Prepare materials and maintain organized program spaces
Community Connection
  • Support youth and families in accessing resources when needed
  • Build connections with community partners and services
  • Apply awareness of barriers related to access and equity in daily work
Program Support
  • Track participation and complete required documentation
  • Contribute to program evaluation and reporting
  • Participate in staff training and development

Requirements of Work

Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth or teens in mentorship education or community settings preferred
  • Strong relationship building and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial cultural and socioeconomic populations
  • Creative flexible and able to engage youth in a variety of settings
  • Understanding of youth development and community-based work
  • Lived experience and community connection valued

Requirements
  • Valid Wisconsin Drivers License and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to lift and move supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work in community based settings
