Job Description

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Building Trades Supervisor the Carpenter performs a variety of woodworking and repair duties essential to the upkeep of Vassars campus. This is a full time in-person CWA Union position for the Full Year.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of woodworking duties including but not limited to rough carpentry finish carpentry installation and repair of hardware flooring windows doors etc.

  • Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Vassar College and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Upkeep of all tools and maintaining all Vassar owned equipment assigned to the employee.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment daily.

  • Communicate and work effectively with other trades.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.

Required knowledge skills and abilities

  • High school diploma vocational training or equivalent required.

  • A minimum of five years experience in all phases of carpentry. Academic trade or schooling is a plus however it is not a substitute for experience.

  • Furniture repair experience and some knowledge of cabinet work.

  • Knowledgeable in the use of various hand and power tools and their maintenance relative to all scopes of the carpentry.

  • Knowledge of carpentry methods and mathematics necessary.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English including understanding speaking reading and writing. Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Possess and maintain a valid drivers license for at least 2 years.

  • Ability to perform repeated bending squatting stooping pushing and pulling.

  • Ability to stand and walk for a prolonged period of time.

  • Ability to move position place and transport objects up to and including 75 pounds.

  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and scaffolding.

  • Willingness to work overtime as available. Overtime is assigned according to seniority guidelines.

Compensation

$37.52 per hour
