Job Summary

Seras Womens Shelter is seeking a passionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team in providing a safe supportive and empowering environment for women and women with children escaping domestic violence. This role is vital in helping residents rebuild their lives by offering practical assistance and emotional support as they take steps towards healing and independence. About the role

The position is a permanent part time role working 3 hours every Thursday and be rostered to work full-day shifts on alternate weekends covering Friday through Monday totaling 34 hours per fortnight.

The role includes a combination of on site duties and on call responsibilities as part of a rotating roster. Reporting to the Team Leader you will work in conjunction with our Specialist DFV Crisis Workers and across Seras programs to provide support to victim survivors escaping domestic violence by providing trauma informed addition to direct client support the position also involves contributing to the overall safety cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere of the shelter by assisting with general upkeep and facility care as required.

The successful candidate will be highly resilient with the ability to adapt to changing demands whilst utilising a compassionate and empowering approach.

It is a requirement that this position is filled by a woman as under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 sex is a genuine occupational qualification.


Required qualifications and experience

  • Certificate III in Community Services or similar qualification (highly desirable)
  • 1 year experience in support work

Role requirements

  • Current drivers licence
  • Positive Notice of a Working with Children Check (Blue card) or ability to obtain prior to commencement
  • First Aid and CPR certificate or ability to obtain once commenced employment


Required skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and client-centred care
  • Ability to provide empathetic respectful and non-judgmental support to individuals in crisis
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills in challenging situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality professional boundaries and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Computer literacy skills required


About the offer

  • Hourly rate of $34.58 $41.45 per hour
