  • INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT 7HOUR

    (2026-2027 School Year)


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. High school diploma and passage of Kern High School District proficiency test
    2. Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics or reading readinesswriting readiness and mathematics readiness as appropriate
    3. Minimum of 48 semester units; course work from accredited college in behavior management psychology child development orother related area desirable or 1-2 years experience working with individuals with exceptional needs whose primary needs relateto social emotional/behavioral domains and who require intensive behavior management and intervention to access educational goals
    4. Understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Behavioral Support plan process; ability to implement individualeducation and behavior support plans gather and interpret data and to provide reports for teacher
    5. Knowledge of crisis management techniques; ability to react effectively in emergency situations; knowledge of and ability to exerciseappropriate crisis intervention when necessary
    6. Certification of completion of full 20 hour ProAct Crisis Intervention Training within the first 120 days of employment and maintain current certification
    7. Ability to communicate effectively with staff students parents and community
    8. Physical ability to perform duties of job
    9. Bilingual ability may be required depending on assignment


    REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned

    JOB GOAL: To provide effectively functioning learning environment by assisting in instruction and maintenance of appropriate classroomand site behavior of students with special needs

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Under direction of teacher or other appropriate staff assists in individual or small group instruction; assists students in variety of instructionalrecreational health and personal activities as assigned
    2. Assists in implementation of pupil behavior management plans which may involve use of approved behavior modification physical managementtechniques or other skills to establish and maintain appropriate behavior
    3. Assists in ensuring physical safety where students due to nature and severity of disabilities are or may be prone to accidents and/or assaultiveor abusive behaviors
    4. Accompanies and assists students to and from transportation and activities on campus; may accompany students on bus or other transportation as needed
    5. Assists in establishing and maintaining clean safe and pleasant learning environment; assists in implementation of student Individualized EducationalPlan through variety of classroom site and community activities as assigned; prepares sets up and organizes instructional materials and equipment for daily use
    6. Assists in lifting moving and positioning students as necessary to render various forms of personal care which may include but are not limited to feeding dressinggrooming toileting diapering therapy and specialized health care procedures; assists students in use of wheelchairs braces or other orthopedic equipment; maybe required to use mechanical lifting or other equipment
    7. Performs routine clerical tasks related to position such as recordkeeping filing and duplicating; assists with enrollment procedures cafeteria counts attendanceverifications and other common classroom routines and activities
    8. Maintains current knowledge of skills and techniques related to position; attends training sessions workshops and other inservice activities as needed
    9. Maintains confidentiality of student records in accordance with District and legal requirements
    10. Assists with ProAct Crisis Intervention as needed
    11. Performs other related duties as assigned


    SALARY: $18.71 - $30.48 per hour

    EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the districts Improvement of Professional Services handbookBoard Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable.


    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.

    MINIMUM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

      1. Two years (48 semester units) of study at an accredited college or university
      2. Associates or higher degree from an accredited college or university
      3. Passage of BCSD Paraprofessional Test
      4. CBEST


    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
