DESCRIPTION
Were looking for a motivated and creative self-starter with a passion for public library service to join our team! Serving an active engaged community of 34000 in the South Hills our full-time Senior Services Librarian will develop a diverse range of exciting opportunities for our senior patrons including bus trips speakers wellness programs hands-on learning senior STEM and outreach to community partners. Additionally librarians in this position contribute to our diverse and dynamic materials collection provide readers advisory and reference and collaborate with other librarians on library- and community-wide initiatives and large events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develop and implement a broad range of creative and engaging in-person programs in the library.
- Network partner and collaborate with community organizations especially those serving seniors and older adults. Seek opportunities to expand the librarys services to older adults through community outreach.
- Grow services to seniors in the community through library card initiatives participation in senior fairs and meeting the unique needs of this population.
- Provide technology instruction to seniors both in-person at the library and within a residential community setting.
- Staff the Reference Desk several times a week. Provide readers advisory services and reference help with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Assist in the development and promotion of the library materials collection.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of library principles of service policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of literature and materials both print and electronic.
- Computer skills including proficiency with electronic information resources and software.
- Knowledge of area specialization especially basic tech instruction and adult programming.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public.
- Excellent reference and organizational skills
- Excellent oral written and listening skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have completed a Masters Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university.
- Candidates with prior professional library experience will receive special consideration.
- Evening and weekend availability is required. The library is open seven days a week.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be frequently required to move and/or lift materials up to 25 pounds and push a loaded book truck weighing up to 300 pounds; regularly required to stand walk bend kneel crawl reach climb balance and sit; operate a keyboard at efficient speed and typical office equipment including computer hardware; regularly required to talk and/or hear; use hands to operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges. This position requires full time in person work at the Mt. Lebanon Public Library and may occasionally be required to attend off-site meetings.
