JOB OVERVIEW
Automation Engineer II is responsible for the design development and qualification of automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment. Additional responsibility includes continuous improvements to existing equipment to increase throughput quality and reliability. The successful candidate will work independently and use sound judgment to deliver optimal manufacturing solutions. This is a hands-on position that requires interaction and collaboration with a cross-functional team.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and present design concepts and automation solutions.
- Take full ownership of the assigned engineering projects from concept to prototyping testing design build qualification/validation launch and post-launch support.
- Evaluate the current manufacturing processes /workflows and identify opportunities to realize improved product consistency and increased throughput via automation solutions.
- Lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and make recommendations for changes.
- Develop specifications and user /design requirements for automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.
- Program and integrate PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) robotics motion systems and machine vision solutions.
- Ensure seamless equipment integration with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and data systems.
- Work closely with Mechanical Process and Quality Engineering through the creation of verification /validation documents (FAT SAT IQ OQ PQ) as well as successful execution data generation and report.
- Comply with companys policies and guidelines regarding design control validation activities and documentation.
- Drive process optimization and standardization across manufacturing lines.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Work with facility and maintenance groups and provide support as needed.
EDUCATION
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering Computer Science or related field.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
- 3 - 5 years experience in equipment design and manufacturing automation.
- Experience with Robotics Steppers/Servos Motion Control and machine vision systems.
- Experience in system /network design software development (PLC and/or PC) system commissioning debugging and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Automation Direct and Allen Bradley PLC programming.
- Knowledge of systems controls using various components such as vision systems PLCs HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) conveyors electromechanical valves pneumatic systems robots labeling systems and any other business application that supports business intelligence solutions / applications.
- Excellent verbal written presentation and people skills.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Creative initiative-taking flexible to work in a small company environment and assume a wide variety of tasks.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices for secondary pharmaceutical equipment such as mixers bulk powders and bulk liquid systems wastewater system purified water system packaging equipment and robotics preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with lean manufacturing
- Good understanding of DfX.
- Prior experience with FDA regulations and ISO cGMP and QMS standards
