Job Description RN Flex Pool (Days) Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Flex Pool assignment supporting multiple medical and surgical units. The RN will provide high-quality patient care while floating between various departments based on staffing needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical judgment adaptability and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced acute care environments.
This role requires flexibility to work across medical-surgical and step-down care settings while maintaining patient safety and delivering compassionate patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult medical-surgical and step-down patients
- Float between designated medical and surgical units as assigned
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols
- Monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately to changes in status
- Utilize clinical equipment including wound vacs chest tubes medication dispensing systems and electronic medical records
- Collaborate with physicians interdisciplinary teams patients and families to coordinate care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system
- Adhere to infection control patient safety and hospital policies and procedures
- Participate in orientation and unit-specific training programs

- Medical Unit
- Surgical Acute Unit
- Cardiovascular Unit (occasionally)
Schedule
- 12-hour day shifts
- Shift hours:
- Scheduled 36 hours per week following orientation
- Holiday coverage required
- Hours are not guaranteed
Patient Ratios
- Medical Unit: typically 1:6 on days/evenings
- Surgical Acute Unit: typically 1:6
- Cardiovascular Unit: typically 1:4
- Ratios may vary based on census and staffing needs
Qualifications
- Active Hawaii Registered Nurse license required by assignment start date
- Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience required
- Experience in Medical-Surgical and/or Step-Down nursing preferred
- Current BLS/BCLS certification required
- ACLS certification required
- Preferred certifications:
- PALS
- Procedural Sedation
- TNCC
- ENPC
Skills & Experience
- Strong adaptability and flexibility in floating between units
- Ability to manage multiple patient populations and changing priorities
- Experience with acute care equipment and clinical procedures
- Strong communication teamwork and critical thinking skills
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems
