Project Accountant
Job Summary
- Maintain accurate project budgets cost tracking and financial records
- Monitor project costs and analyze budget variances
- Assist with forecasting cash flow and project expenditures
- Support preparation of financial reports forecasts and project summaries
- Assist with construction project close-outs and financial reconciliations
- Ensure accurate capture and reporting of project costs
- Prepare monthly progress billings and supporting documentation
- Prepare client invoices for fixed-price cost-plus and T&M projects
- Monitor collections and track payment statuses
- Coordinate with Project Managers regarding billing approvals and requirements
- Maintain accurate billing records and schedules
- Update invoice and payment statuses within project management systems
- Process vendor and subcontractor invoices
- Ensure proper cost coding and approval workflows
- Review trade invoices against contracts budgets and commitments
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Review and process employee expense reports for accuracy compliance and timely reimbursement
- Assist with month-end close processes including journal entries and accruals
- Complete monthly bank and corporate credit card reconciliations
- Ensure reporting deadlines are met
- Support quarterly forecasting and annual budget preparation
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies within project financials
- Maintain organized project financial records and documentation
- Assist with audits reporting requests and special projects
- Collaborate with internal departments to improve processes and efficiencies
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance & Operations teams
- Diploma or Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field
- 13 years of accounting experience preferably within construction or a project-based industry
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage QuickBooks Premier Construction or similar ERP systems is considered an asset
- Experience with Procore or similar project management software is considered an asset
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and project-based financial management
