JOB PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Supervisor Facilities or Designate the Facilities Technician maintains safety good order and appropriate service level standards of cleanliness and appearance at Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP). Adhering to the Occupational Health & Safety Act the Facilities Technician ensures routine cleaning and basic maintenance duties are completed contributing towards providing a safe and accessible invitingly clean and comfortable campus environment through service excellence.
The Facilities Technician is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff students stakeholders and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Building Maintenance 50%
- Maintaining outer premises by mowing lawns;
- Performing maintenance and minor repairs (replacing broken switches fixing door handles minor leaks etc.) and transporting required materials;
- Escalating any custodial maintenance and/or safety issues to the Facilities Supervisor;
- Ensuring timely opening of facilities in the morning (unlocking doors disabling alarms turning on lights);
- Ensuring secure facilities after hours (locking doors closing windows setting alarms);
- Providing evening and occasional daytime/weekend access to facilities;
- Ability to travel to and perform duties at both the Ohsweken and Brantford campuses;
- Other related duties as required
Sanitation 25%
- Performing cleaning and sanitizing duties at campus locations including general office areas classrooms washrooms floors windows doors fixtures and entrances;
- Ensuring cleaning and custodial work duties are completed daily in accordance with completion deadlines taking into consideration traffic flow and special events;
- Ensuring all areas are made and remain tidy including entrance ways;
- Monitoring and informing the Facilities Supervisor of adequate levels of custodial supplies;
- Ensuring cleaning equipment is ready for use and in good repair
- Appropriately using chemicals materials powered and non-powered equipment and tools and required personal protective equipment in accordance with WHMIS regulations;
- Vacuuming sweeping washing dusting and spot-cleaning all areas and surfaces;
- Ensuring daily removal of refuse and recycling
- Disposing of occasional bio-hazardous waste in a compliant manner;
- Maintaining outer premises by watering plants cleaning entrances (if youd prefer this can also be partly maintenance);
- Complying with the SNP campus procedural manual;
- Other related duties as required.
Vendor and Renter Coordination & Compliance 15%
- Verify vendor or renter access against approved work orders booking schedules or access lists.
- Monitoring vendor activity to ensure adherence to designated areas and campus protocols.
- Redirecting unauthorized individuals and providing clear instructions regarding access boundaries.
- Reporting repeated non-compliance or security concerns to the Facilities Supervisor or Security.
- Documenting incidents and notifying appropriate personnel.
- Other related duties as required.
General Administration 10%
- Record completed tasks deferred tasks time spent materials used and any notes requiring followup.
- Reassign or reprioritize tasks based on daily building needs and document rationale.
- Provide the Facilities Supervisor with brief summaries of daily issues supply needs and upcoming task priorities.
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
Completion of high school. High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE
Over 1 years and including 3 years of experience in commercial cleaning including major institutional sectors such as education post-secondary education medical/hospital or service industry; and
WHMIS training and experience using hazardous workplace materials including chemical cleaning products and powered/ non-powered equipment and tools including floor polishers vacuum cleaners and floor scrubbers. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team contributing to a respectful and culturally supportive work environment.
Criminal Record Check
The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.
