Job Summary
Department Overview
The Sterile Processing Technician I performs routine work in the decontamination assembly testing and
distribution of medical equipment supplies and instruments in a medical facility.
This is the first level of a three-level series. It is distinguished from the higher levels by the absence of
responsibility for performing advanced and complicated sterilization assembly and testing of medical
equipment supplies and instruments. Employees in this level may be in training to perform Central Services
Technician II duties.
Function/Duties of Position
- Use knowledge of sterilization and infection control principles to properly decontaminate instrumentation and equipment.
- Appropriately operate equipment including but not limited to cart washersdecontaminators computers ultrasonic scanners telephones and photocopiers.
- Performs routine instrument and equipment quality checks.
- Dispense equipment & instrumentation Restocking of Carts Case CartPicking assists with Operating Room Turnover Put aways (instruments supplies and equipment). Maintains Patient & Customer Focus.
- Assists with in servicing and orientation of staff both new and those in assignment rotation.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent And
- One year work experience in any field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of (or enrollment in) the Sterile Processing Course; OR
- 2 years job experience in a hospital clinic or medical laboratory with exposure to decontamination and cleaning processes OR
- 2 years materials handling experience including inventory and stocking of perishable supplies.
- CBSPD or HSPA
Additional Details
Work in a variety of assignments work with detergents enzymes germiside and other related chemicals
must be able to interpret color changes to external chemical indicators basic computer skills must be willing
and able to work at a variety of department locations must be able to ride the arial tram to and from
waterfront location.
